Casino's.. the next step
As most of you have heard, Milford has been targeted by big money players and casino magnets to become home of a casino. The idea of having it in Milford seems foolish, the idea is now being seriously considered next week on the Hill. Karen Spilka, co chair of the Joint Economic Development committee will hear from the voices next Thursday. The economic realities are such that licensed gambling should have already been approved and as far as I know, the Wompanoag's who say they will scale back on their casino, are still going forward in Middleboro.
Lets see how long it will take for those dead beat legislators to make something happen.

I say it is a no brainer to put a casino in whereever we can, more than one if we have the room. Think of all the money these places generate, as well as all the jobs it would provide for those in the area. What exactly is the downside to this?
I am guessing that Framingham Resident does not live in Milford or he would not be asking what is the downside. How would you feel if this were going up down the street from your house in Framingham, would you understand the downside then?
The traffic woes are not unlike a Walmart or a dam CVS on a corner of a major route. If you remember back when the Indians were negotiating with Middleboro, the police got a huge chunk of money, so did the fire department, the Town got assurances of millions of dollars for everything the Town needed to support thousands of people coming into their Town every day.
My guess is that lots of money, and as of now, 700,000 dollars has come from gaming people... to hire lobbyists.. .to get something going, maybe Milford, Palmer, Middelboro, Fall River, maybe even at a race track in Boston. Having to fight casino traffic to see my grandkids is not what I hope for the future and would be very surprised to see anything like that in Milford. All the rest of the proposed locations make more sense to me.
The ney sayers contend that it will hurt disproportionately the poor and reek havoc with our own lottery. They also say it's about the quality of life, traffic and the criminal element drawn to gambling. I'm not convinced that is true.
There will be lots of people with hands out in whatever community gaming is considered and as in Middleboro, some residents were gun hoe... others were not. It will boil down to how well the pot is sweetened by the gaming people, and how they can buy legislative support.
Not sure about the idea of a casino in Millford. I am thinking about the traffic nighmare. Has anyone done a study on the impact it would have on traffic patterns in the area? And curiouos about how much it would actually contribute to the tax base in MA. You must be able to get an idea about that from the CT casino’s. Anyone know those figures?
New.. from what I know... the casinos are hurting badly... all over the country. Vegas had layoffs, Twin River has been hit very hard as have the rest of the nearest money traps.
The Indians have scaled back their own plans to build a place 30 miles from here. It is absolutely NOT a tax revenue wind fall...and size now does matter. Our entire economy is shrinking and so will the mega buildings for gambling.
The huge revenue and promises made about revenue have done well for CT in the past years, although much of the revenue was stolen to pay for other things, after last year's financial meltdown and we learn today, over 100 banks have now failed, it's my guess, even those who spend unwisely will cut back on gambling. But again, I say, bring them on, where they are welcomed.... and Milford may not be the right place. It's up to the communitiesssss.
Nothing in the world comes with big impact at the very beginning,,so casino in Millford could scale up economy in our area..why you guys are worried about Casino traffic...Let's see what will happen in the future..
I’m trampled by your contents carry on the wonderful work.
