Deval is off and running, duck and cover folks
First off, another 800 million is cut from the newest budget propsoed by Deval. Local aid will take another hit it appears. Revenue collections were down in April. The game playing is heating up, with three different budgets being floated, with and without the sales tax increase. Nothing is in stone yet... and while this is going on, we learn today from the Globe and Herald, Deval's team knew about the Cognos software issue and how Deval didn't want to pick a fight with DiMasi in 2007. Look for this to be ammo in next years race.
All ethics reform meetings are closed to the public and the Senates version of the reform package, still does not exclude gifts to lawmakers, independent oversight and more teeth in the investigative procedures. Since the House approved the two Hack Holidays in Boston, it will now be up to the Senate to either keep or reject those two holidays, Bunker Hill and Evacuation Day.
Deval has hired an Obama cheerleader, David Plouffe was Obama's campaign manager. His spin on Deval will be that Deval is the reformer. So we may have Cristy Mihos as a Republican, Tim Cahill as either an Independent or he may force a run off as a Democrat. The millions that will be raised for these campaigns... all to make a lowly 6 figure income.
Besides Mihos's, I don't think there is one person connected to Beacon Hill, I can trust to run the State. And Mihos's opposition to Cape Wind keeps him off my list to vote for. I'm hoping another figure will come out of the dark and run against all of them who is beyond reproach.
The legal proceedings this summer will conclude with many more revelations and expose even more unethical behavior. Even the hard core supporters will not be able to defend actions by the ruling party and if they do, they will hold no weight and only serve to validate the voters descent within the party to vote for people who are not tied into such a corrupt and unethical system.
On a brighter note, this weekend should be sunny and warmer... take time to breath in some clean air and take a moment to witness the growth of a new spring. It's one of the only things left we have that isn't taxed, regulated or prohibited.

You are right Jim in all you say here, but especially in your comment about enjoying the weekend and the fresh air. It truly is one of the few things left that they don't tax us on, but I do worry that after they see your remarks here, they may decide taxing that is a good idea!
I personally am surprised at an Obama person coming here to support Patrick. He is the poster child for so many of the things Obama is against. I hate to think that Obama’s rules about ethical, transparent behavior apply to everyone except his friends. But maybe this guy is coming to clean up Patrick’s act. We can only hope. Got a question about something you said in an earlier posting Jim. If you are right and the federal government will bail out CA, then how will they justify not bailing out MA? At least we have a democrat for governor, which is not true in CA. A state is a state, right? Why CA and not us?
Angry,
I too am surprised that Obama's main man is working for Deval. My only reason could be that Obama sees his pal going down hopper and wants to help him. And with the current level of government gone wrong, perhaps Obama feels Deval may get caught up in it, more than he is and would be a terrible embarrassment to the party.
California is 24 BILLION in dept with little chance of taxing their way out. We are around 2 to 3 billion. California is where the big money is and all the Dem's know that. Mass has it's share, but we are small potatoes. California helps decide who the next president is, no one cares what Mass has to say about it. They have start power, we have brain power.
My guess is that Mass is not in as bad of shape in the eyes of the White House, and even if we had major cuts, with reforms and efficiencies enacted, Mass would come out better than if California tried the same thing.
I in no way have any inside info on this and I may be completely wrong, but I don't think the White House will let them fail, no matter which party is at the helm.
Watch out people. Jim enjoys an alternaive to alchohol, which recently got legalized, so now will be in line for being taxed I am sure. Now he is saying enjoy the fresh air. If history repeats itself, we will be getting taxed on that soon also. Just kidding Jim, but I am sure if they could find a way to charge us for that enjoying the good weather, they would.
I thought when you said he was off and running, you meant literaly he was off and running, right out of office. I was all set to celebrate, and then I read the rest of the post. Sure would be nice if he would run for the hills. He is doing nothing but making it worse for those of us here in MA. Maybe he could run off with Richardson.
Read this blog and you know we are on a sinking ship with a captain and crew who are drunks. Time for a mutiny if you ask me. Hey, we may not have any experience, but we have to be better at it than they are. How could we possibly be any worse? At least most of us are living in reality and understand the concept of not being able to spend more money than you have coming it, a concept the politicians in MA can not seem to get their head around. If any of them are accountants, I hope no one is using them to do their taxes, you could end up in jail.
