Few voters say yes to Chris, no to Pam

It took only 3500 or so voters to narrowly decide who will face me in the Nov election. Chris received 1883 votes and Pam received 1647... but a win is a win. I congratulate Chris on his victory, but the numbers do show a deep division in the Democratic party here in Framingham. Even with the huge union support Pam had, 31 unions contributed to her run, the more left in the party felt Pam was out of touch with the more middle ground D's.

At least now, an intelligent debate hopefully can happen between myself and Chris. And that's all I could have hoped for. Letting the voters decide whether sending another D to the dysfunctional State House whose party is mostly responsible for all the corruption, fraud, patronage and ineffectiveness or someone who will represent all the voters of Framingham in an open and honest way, demanding an ethical government that gets things done.

Since most voters are independent in Framingham now, perhaps the other 30,000 voters who didn't vote last night will see a clear difference between Chris and I and vote thier collective concience. Not since 2002, when I got 25% of the votes against Debbie Blummer, have the voters had a real choice in the election. Democracy from the bottom up.

Let the games begin.

Nice comments, and nice attitude. Lets make this election about the issues, not about mud slinging. Good luck Jim, I think you can beat him

Hooray that she is out. Walsh is still a democrat, and that makes him one of the problems. You have my vote as long as you stay on target for what you are saying now

I think it would have been fun to watch you massacre Richardson! Will miss that. A race with Walsh is more about experience and views and I guess that is more important for the good of Framingham. I am looking forward to hearing the differences in your ideas and views.

I was a Richardson supporter. I just can not support Walsh, so will be looking at other options. When you don't have Pam to smear it will be interesting to see what you actually have to say about the issues.

Interest in seeing how you fight Walsh on issues instead of on past performance. Hope you can stand up and tell us your ideas and your plans, that is what we will be voting for in November since there is no incumbent to support. This will be a race on candidates ideas and views. Don't know that either of you have been very good at letting us see that side of you. You both have been running against Richardson's failures. This is now a totally new type of fight, and one that I hope will benefit Framingham.

You need to do more to get yourself in the public view Pillsbury. You can beat Walsh if you let people know what you stand for. Don't sit back and don't fight, just let the people of Framingham know your views and your ideas and you can win this election.

What are you going to say now that you don't have Richardson to beat up on?

Update you web page Pillsbury! You have not changed anything there in weeks. If that is how we get to know you, then you need to use it. This blog can not be the only method of finding out about you.

Tough battle ahead. You and Walsh are both unknowns to many in this town. How you approach and present yourself from this point on is what will decide the outcome in November.Don't assume anything. Not everyone knows who you are. Tell your story and articulate your positions and you can beat Walsh.

Looking forward to a race about the issues instead of about the rhetoric of the party. Don't know much about either you or Walsh, but will be paying close attention because there are options this time, which there has not been in the past. There are a lot of undecided voters out there right now, fed up with the ruling party. This race could show just how fed up we are. I will be paying close attention this election season.

The race is on, and it is a worthwhile race. I think both you and Walsh have a lot to offer. Looking forward to hearing more about both of you to make an informed decision. I think you can appeal to way more voters because you are not a democrat. Hope that can get you the votes you need to actually become the new rep for this district. We need someone like you, at least from what I know about you so far.

I appreciate all your kind words and advice and will do my best to stay on coarse. The race has not changed, just different hurdles now that Pam is gone. I will adapt and overcome, on that I give my word.

Pillsbury - a rumor continues to be circulated (it has neither been officially confirmed or denied) that Walsh has the ability to put all his years as a Town Meeting Member towards his years needed for a pension. I would strongly recommend you check to see if this is true - and IF it is true to get Walsh to publicly state that he would not use his Town Meeting years this way - or use it against him as just someone else who would be taking advantage of the system.

Good question Announ... I will find out and post here. I can't imagine TM time counts for anything other than a line on a resume.

Ha, that would really be something if Walsh is doing this solely to get a pension. Is he still a TM member? Metrowest said he is, but I don't think he is anymore. Is the mistake the papers, or did he say he was still a TM?

I spoke with the State Retirement Board, and there's nothing there for a Town Meeting member. I also called the retirement board here in Framingham, and unless Chris was an employee of the Town, working at least 20 hours a week, his time at TM might be considered, but I believe Chris has never worked for the Town.

And now that you brought the subject up... I would hope the retirement board would never consider time on a volunteer board be used in any retirement package.

Chris is not a current TMMemeber.

I am not a current town meeting member, I am a Library trustee which precludes me from being a TMM but I can promise you that "gaming" the system is something I will never do or consider -
I am a owner of a small architecture business- who I am and what I have done in Framingham is all very transparent- at my website www.electchriswalsh.com

I have donated many hours, weeks, months and years of my time
(for no pay or recompense) to make Framingham a better place to live.
I'm in this race because I am angry at how little substantive work was being done at the Rep's position and the lack of a vision for the future so I took it on myself to stand up and run a campaign for Framingham with out the support of any party. With hard work, great volunteers, time and half the money of my opponent (from ordinary people -not unions or special interest groups)We were the only campaign to beat an incumbent in the state....

What this town doesn't need more of is people who complain but don't actually get involved in making things better and I applaud Jim for finally becoming active as a town meeting member.
Chris Walsh
