Belknap pool purchase, turf fileds at Fuller, many state cops refuse to get shots
We don't need to buy this and if we do, we either sink millions into making it large enough for all the public to use, or keep it and bulldozer it down for a 6 acre house lot. I didn't grow up here. I've lived on both sides of Rte 9 since 85. And lived on the fringes of Nobscott for 23 years and I must admit, I've never even heard of this place until recently. And I'd bet if you asked in a survey if they've heard of the place... the majority would say no. This community has done so poorly over the decades in keeping our properties in good working condition, this one may end up the same way. Taxpayers can't afford an other investment property. The neighbors should try to buy it.
From the Patch:
The club, located at 351 Belknap Road, has been on the market for $349,000, and in November a Natick man entered into a purchase agreement with the owner. But because the club is classified under state law as recreational land, Framingham has the right of first refusal to buy it.
The City Council Finance Subcommittee on Tuesday night discussed several possibilities for the property, including operating it as a parks and recreation facility.
We will spend, over and above the 90 million for Fuller, (which I voted for) over 3 million dollars for 2 artificial turf fields. Plenty of reasons why we should install turf fields, but the fields will be used primarily by the other sports leagues in the area. The thinking is to rent the fields out to various outside groups. There are a few technical reasons why natural grass fields can't be used everyday along with the maintenance costs, watering, BUT the school (Newtown) I went to and played soccer, baseball and track&field, was and still is grass fields today. The money for the turf fields will come from Park&Rec and the School, 50/50 with the Parks regulating the use.
No one exemplifies more stupid than the 845 State Cops and civilians that have declined the shots. This is out of 2847 total employees. I just don't get it. These men and women are front line workers and at any point may have contact with someone infected. People whose job it is to be factual somehow don't have confidence in science. Can they all be republicans? And what happens when they become ill or worse, die? Just think how much OT they would be missing.. oh wait.. their buddies would reap the OT.

I think state cops, and all cops, should be required to get the vacine if they work with the public. No reason not to.
I have a question Jim on the astro turf at Fuller. If we rent the field out to other sports organization, what is our liability if someone is seriously hurt during some game? Do we need special insurance to rent it out for profit again injury?
How can we even consider buying the Belknap pool when we had to raid the rainy day fund in order to be off the water and sewer deficiet? We don't have that type of money to spend if you ask me,
How exactlu do they justify that money to "upgrade" a sports field when we have building literally falling apart on the city property rolls? This is ridiculous. We need a finance sub-committee that actually understands finances instead of these bozos
Is there a reason these state cops are refusing to get the vaccine or are they just all those uneducated idiots who listen to Trump?
I ha not thought about liability.. perhaps sports teams will have to carry their own liability insurance.
And I want to know how many FPD or FFD employee's have refused to get a shot. Could there be 30% that didn't like the State Cops.
I'm wondering if we can mandate the vacations for Police and Fire personal?
Good question about Framingham police and fire Jim. Have any of them refused to get the vaccine? And if they have, is the city still liable if the get really sick from Covid since they refused the shot that could have prevented that?
I am wondering if a reporter/journalist would ask the appropriate authorities how many have opted out.
The question of liability if one refuses the shot is a huge question that may be answered in court soon.
A candidate (Democratic) for Governor is calling for the Governor to make the cops and first responders make it mandatory as part of your employment.
Can we ask for that information on who has been vacinated or is that protected info under HIPA?
The MA AG says police should be required to get the vaccine. Let's see if she is willing to enforce that. And yes, we need to know how many in FPD and FFD refused the vaccine.
I think this Belknap fake field expense is irresponsible for us to undertake now. The real grass field should be installed and when we have a windfall of a few million then we can change it to a astro turf field. When we are asking the school department already to reduce their budget it begs the question why do Framingham's district council think that the ball field is more important to educate our students than teachers, aides, or latin is?
Jim I have a question. How many of those serving in our city management, including the Mayor, the district councilors and the school committee members have kids attending Framingham public schools? Of those 21 elected officials, I am willing to bet less than half do.
I think only 2 councilors have kids in the schools.
The SC approved the turf fields..FinCom just maintained the status quo and approved it with no discussion.
I hope the next new school has natural turf.
I read that the AG thinks all of them should be vaccinated... I just wonder if Mason and all his men and women care what she thinks. If it doesn't come from Charlie, no one will listen.
I asked the Mayor last night on her community zoom meeting about how many public saftey people refused to get a shot. She evaded the answer and fell back to the usual hapless answer, HEPA laws. So we don't know how many have opted out. I guess I will have to file a FIOA request. I think the general public has the right to know.
