The State House.. Out of touch.. or out of mind?

As the House and Senate leadership make plans to increase sales tax, gas tax, toll increases, candy, soda and alcohol tax increases, amid the worse economic downfall in this States history, the ruling elected elite, who have faced no challengers for years now, are doing fund raising events. House members were rushing to wrap up debate on pension reform so they would be able to kiss the ring of DeLeo.

As they formulate their spending plans, the lawmakers have also been raising campaign money, a Beacon Hill tradition at budget season. Murphy hosted a fund-raiser last week at the Liberty Hotel ballroom, complete with meatball sliders and lamb chops. DeLeo held a fund-raiser last night at Tecce's, and House lawmakers were rushing to wrap up debate on pension reform to trek over to the North End restaurant.

Are they out of touch, or are we just blind to the fact that they are getting what they want? The proof will be in the pudding when we see how much they were actually able to raise. Jim, how do we find that out?

Anderson,

No way to know for sure how much they raised at this point. That money will be in the campaign war chests and only spent next year in 2010 to fend off any competition and to give to those who will have competition in any race around the State.

Those donations won't be reported until later this year, on the OCDF web site.

My guess is that the party loyalist and the lobbyists who back DeLeo and the rest of his dysfunctional party just stand there with their hands open.

But what arrogance they have...

What happens if we ask them how much they raised? Seriously, if we as constituents asked them how much money they raised at a specific event, or how much money they raised for their campaign expenses overall, do you think they would answer us? ANd if not, who would they answer?

How about out of touch AND out of mind. THey have got to be both. But they will need money in those war chests for the next election cycle. Hopefully, they will all be out of office in 2010.

J.Price... they only have to account for donations received and spent a few times a year with Office of Campaign Finance.

As of 12/08 he had 327K in his war chest.

Here's a link to his campaign donations. Interesting to see who's donating.
