Beacon Hill Reps file cannabis sanctuary bill

As most readers have heard, AG Sessions has repealed all of what former President Obama has done to protect States who have medical and legalized cannabis. Our own State's AG has indicated that the Fed's will not give safe haven to anyone who grows, sells or manufactures cannabis products. This has sent a shock wave through the up start industry. 28 states now have some form of medical  cannabis and 9 States have legalized cannabis in some form.
Rep's Dave Rogers and Mike Connolly have introduced a bill that clearly respects the will of the voters here in Mass, prohibiting local and Sate police from participating in federal cases against licensed operators who follow state cannabis laws. If the Feds are going to prosacute licenend cannbis operations, no state tax dollars will be used to do so.
I have asked my Counsel rep to require our Police Department to not go after licensed operators. similar to what Boston and Worcester police departments have done already.
Lets see if our own reps here in Framingham will sign on.

I had stopped checking for posts, thought you gave this up. Glad to see you are back blogging. Have you heard anythng from your dist council about your request? I am curious if we can legally refuse to assist the feds. Would that make us a sanctuary city for pot establishments?

Nothing yet from Cannon.. but not surprised. He's overwhelmed with this subject. Legally, the local and State cops would not be allowed to work on cases involving legal marijuana business. Next Council meeting should prove interesting, 2.6.18.

Why don't we use one of those building by SMOC to grow this stuff, and make a deal like they are trying to make in North Andover for the old Lucent building. The town stands to make millions on that deal. Why aren't we on that bandwagon here in Framingham?

The building on Howard Street just sold for big bucks. The new owner has indicated it could be used for manufacturing and offices. I have encouraged Art Roberts to reach of to the Cannabis Commission to see if Framingham could be a good location for their headquarters.I would hope Art reaches out to the doctor from N Andover who wants to re-utilize vacant large buildings.

It's a shame the N Andover voted the old Lucent building grow and research facility down. It lost by a narrow margin, but the Town voted down the Ballot question in 2016, so it comes as no surprise I guess.

Next Tuesday's Council meeting will discuss marijuana retail and any attempt by them to stand in the way, will be meet with fire and fury.
