Moms Demand Action 3.16.18

I would have thought that this event would have packed the HS auditorium. I would have expected ALL city councilors be there along with the so-called community activists that claim that they are concerned with school safety and gun violence in our schools. Cannon was their for a few minutes, but no other councilor.
The women who represents MDA presented a impact slide show and asked people to join her group.
But as usual, politicians line up to be seen as the champions of the cause. The worst example was from Lewis who was not on the panel, but made his speech anyway. We have these issue's because of the inaction taken by elected officials of both parties who are just afraid to take a real stand.

The most questionable statement of the entire night came when the Police Chief proclaimed that a school shooting can not happen in Framingham, the "data doesn't support it". What yard stick is used to determine that?

How in any world can anyone even possibly think that. Did the Police Chief in Newtown or Parkland think it couldn't happen there?

There is no way to assure anyone, anywhere in this country that it can't happen again and to suggest Framingham is exempt is generating a false sense of security. Does the Mayor agree?

Margareth Shepard was there for a while also, but long gone before the end of the event. Her and Cannon just like people to see them there, then when the event starts and no one is paying attention to them they leave. It was more a political night than a what can we do night. We all know we need to vote in legislators who support more gun restrictions, and that is all the pols really talked about. I had hoped for more here is what we can do ourselves ideas but those were not there. But Moms demand action does seem to be making progress, so I support their work, and appreciate that not once all night did anyone ask for money. As to the Chief, yeah, I found that remark unprofessional and unsupported. What type of data tells you if your local school is at risk from an active shooter? If Chief Ferguson has such reliable and important data, his statement implied the police in Parkland, Sandy Hook, Columbine, Las Vegas, Orland, etc. where not paying attention to readily available and guaranteed accurate. Of course that is not true! To imply that somewhere there are statistics that tell you when your school district is at risk as just plain stupid. If the Chief of Police in Framingham really believes there is no reason to be concerned here in Framingham, then he is very much out of touch and clearly not paying attention. This can happen anywhere, and to see the Chief with a "this could not happen here" attitude is very very concerning to me. I want my police to be vigilant and paying attention, expecting the best but ready for the worst. I don't think the Chief has that attitude based on what he said last night. Glad to see that not one other person on that stage last night seems to feel that way. Clearly, every other speaker said this can happen anywhere, and we have to pay attention and take action to prevent it from ever happening anywhere again.

Thanks to the people who put this together in Framingham and to Moms Demand Action for all they are doing.

no one commented on your statement about what the chief said. Everyone is afraid to complain about the police or the fire, even when you know that made a stupid statement!

isn't it amazing.. even the local media is in on it. Anywhere else, that statement would have been front page news and some reporter would have asked the Mayor for a comment or at least the School Super. His credibility has taken a wack.
Your right, people are afraid of the police and fire departments. No one is willing to hold them accountable for any mis-deeds.

Have a listen to the Police Chief in Maryland where the latest school shooting occurred. Dispelling the notion that it "can't happen here"
