Another case of Police misconduct over detail pay.
I wonder how in the world did this happen. Twenty two officers from Medford and suspended or reprimanded. And why wouldn't they be subject to face criminal charges? I suspect and have no concrete evidence, that the same thing is happening across the State in smaller versions. It's ALL about that detail rate the cops get. I hope Fox digs deeper into how that many cops could get away with fraud and theft.

I think you are right that this is much more widespread than we think. State cops, these guys, they are not alone. This is not the exception, this is the rule I think here in MA
Sad to hear about bad cops. They should be examples to our kids of being the good guys. Instead I hear my 14 year old talking with his friends about how cops are all criminals. I of course stepped in, but was very sad to hear that is how my kids have come to view these police officers and rightfully so.
it is sad to hear. Kids may be more aware than we think. Can't hide it from them. But it does set a real bad example and may lead to more disrespect of law enforcement. And lets face facts, teenage drivers are a frequent target for cops.
It concerns me that these officers are not facing criminal charges. If I "stole" several hours worth of pay for time I did not actually work, I suspect I would be facing charges, but then, I am not a cop.
the total amount stolen was 17K. The length of suspensions range from 2 days to 30 days. The bad cops will not be able to take on any details, but no one knows for how long. The Mayor in a statement, However I remain confident that in concert with the Police Chief, we handled this matter swiftly, professionally, and with veracity. Out of 105 officers, 20 made over 150K last year and 3 made over 200K. Those punished were a mix of patrolman, supervisors, with some lieutenants ans Sargent's. The matter was investigated by retired State Police Captain Paul L'Italien. DA Ryan's office said "we are aware of the matter but it has not been referred to us".
Doesn't this just reek of a cover-up? Justice is not served by cops investigating cops.
Cover up for sure. Does DA Ryan have to be contacted by the police in order to bring charges or can she do that on her own?
yeah good question. My uneducated guess... the cops must ask the DA to investigate if laws were broken and it's her job to start the investigation and create the charges. Fed prosecutor Leling must be just ready to pounce on this, if given the chance. After all...conspiring to commit theft from public funds is a crime.
Unfortunately, police misconduct has become a usual problem nowadays, and it really frightens me. How are we supposed to combat it? I really think we should create rights protective organizations like AAAPPP to change the situation.
