MSP union sues State over Troopers OT pay
I almost fell off my chair. The union representing 1900 state cops is suing the State claiming that the troopers have been shortchanged in OT pay for the past three years.
They claim the OT rate should include the stipends the members get, like a 750-dollar clothing allowance and 40 dollars per day travel stipend along with a 700-dollar hazardous duty bonus.
They are claiming the State owes them between 1 and 2 million each per year along with damages that could be around 18 million dollars.
The agency spent 56 million on OT in 2020 and 58 million the year before. In 2019, 325 troopers took home over 200k.
The union also claims that troopers have lost part of their retirement due to the miscalculation which does not include stipends.
Maura Healy has been asked to represent the State Police.

Are you fing kidding me? After all the corruption and dishonesty we have learned about these guys committing, they think they are underpaid??? Give me a break
This is ridiculous. But I have to ask, do others get these stipends included when determining the hourly pay rate, like the local cops and local fire? And second, if this has been going on so long and it is a mistake, why are they just filing for this now? Something is rotten in Demark here.
good question on others.. we do have a few cops still getting the Quinn bill stipend as I remember and maybe more who get other stipends. Knowing our local peace officers, I wouldn't be surprised if they go down that same road with Framingham. I'm not sure if FFD gets any stipends. We tried to do away with all stipends at TM years ago.
They union says it notified Col Mason a few years back but nothing changed.
These people are amazingly ignorant of how they are viewed by the public. Do they think this is going to help their cause? Just plain stupid. Too stupid to carry a gun if you ask me, don't you think?
We need to disband the MA state police. I think we can all agree you would hard pressed to find an honest state cop and if they were honest they would resign in light of all of the issues we have seen
I like the sounds of that but is it possible to disband the state police and if so how do we do that
Baker will never do anything to upset MSP. No matter how bad they get.
Can't we do a ballot questions to disband the staties?
nope.
Why not?
