The Amy Bishop story gets bigger

The tragic story in Alabama over the weekend of the three co workers of Amy Bishop who were killed at the University Of Alabama over a tenure issue is growing deeper. Back in 1986 Bishop shot and killed her brother, tried to car jack someone in an attempt to flee the area. As she was arrested at gun point and brought to the Braintree Police Station for booking, in one account, was lead out the side door of the police station without being charged, ordered by the former Police Chief, who later said the shooting was accidental. Her mother worked at the Town offices at the time. The Police Chief from Braintree now is saying the words cover-up as there is no record or evidence of the crime anywhere to be found. Now, authorities are looking at a bombing of a professors home, many years ago,in connection with with Bishop's killing spree in Alabama.

Question of the day, will there be a full investigation by the AG's office into whether there was a cover-up?

the plot thickens.... after seeing the Sate Police report form the shooting of the brother in Braintree, the former Police Chief now questions why charges weren't filed against Bishop. And here's a stunner... our congressman Dellihunt was the district attorney back then. I wonder if this case will help Dellihunt make up his mind not to run again.

This whole thing smells of a cover up. The poor brother, killed by his sister and his mother protects her. I would love to know the position the mother held. Why was the police chief so willing to allow someone to walk out on a murder charge, we are not talking shop lifting here? I bet there was some hanky panky involved somewhere here.

If the plot gets too much thicker here it is going to become quicksand and just suck in anyone who was ever involved in the earlier cases. How can anyone justify letting that woman go? I know hindsite is 20 x 20, but didn’t they at least consider that if she did this once she might do it again and at least order her to have some sort of physch evaluation. Cops kick a guy to death because he had a joint in his pocket, and they let a woman go who shot and killed her brother walk away scott free. Something is fundamentally wrong with the way our police forces work in this state. Maybe something like this, where another state is now involved, will help to clean up the mess here in MA.

Question for you Jim. Do these families in AL who lost a loved one because of this woman with a history get to sue the state of MA, or the Town of Braintree, for letting this woman go to kill again? You can bet if it was my husband or wife who got shot that I would be going after someone.

If the Braintree police never even charged her, then did anything even go to Delahunt? I don’t think so. The district attorneys office onlys sees things that are passed his way by the police departments. Maybe Braintree never even passed it his way since they did not file any charges against this lunatic.

The people in the know missed the guy at Fort Hood, and the people in the know messed up with this woman in Braintree years ago. Makes me wonder how many more ticking bombs are walking around out there that the people in the know have also missed.

This story is going to get rehashed and rehashed by the media and bloggers alike. But the reality is that we can not undo the past, so no matter how mad you get that they let this nutcase go, they did it and now people in Alabama have paid the price. Those people who let her go in 86 have to live with that and it should mess them up for the rest of their lives that they did this.

I heard today that this Bishop bimbo beat some woman up at an IHop in MA and was suppose to go to anger management classes. I wonder how many times she pulled stuff like this that never got reported. This is a horrific example of the system gone wrong.

I think we should be spending more time grieving for the dead right now than we are talking about this woman who killed them. Her time will come. Right now, the focus should be on the dead, the injured, and their familes don't you think?

John,

Not much has been said about the dead victims or the victims lying in intensive care, but I'll bet, they are asking why.. .just like we are.

Good question Doreen. There seems to be lots of reasons for wrongful death, but who is being sued? The X Police Chief that now says, something was wrong back then, The State's who investigated, DeLaHunt for not pressing, the Alabama school who hired her, because her record was clean, or her Bishops mother?

There are so many, in hind sight, root causes to this tragedy. But everyone agrees now, the warning signs were there and some how covered up, in the beginning. Not to learn from this, would be even a bigger crime, for the future. .

from the Herald:

Outrage is boiling over in Alabama at Massachusetts authorities for failing to corral alleged spree killer Amy Bishop 24 years ago when the Braintree woman shot and killed her brother.

“We’re very angry,” said Jennifer Davis, whose brother-in-law’s wife, Maria Ragland Davis, was one of three killed in Friday’s massacre at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. “(Bishop) took someone’s life. If (Massachusetts officials) knew she had problems, maybe they could have done something. Look how many lives were taken.”
