Flag Day Parade.. should we surrender?

Over the years, I walked the parade once in 2002 and had two floats in 2 other parades since 2002 until the parades stopped in 2006. They all started at Butterfield Park I think it's called. These were grand affairs, lots of planning and coordination among many. Dog Freeman was in charge back then and I will admit, he did a good job.
This years bringing back from the moth balls Flag Day Parade was much shorter but what was the most striking was the lack of spectators. A fellow League member around longer than I said to me, "I remember when it was 10 deep the whole parade route". And he would know. In all three that I've be in, I remember no empty spaces the entire length and I think I remember more immigrants from the south side around the Memorial building as we turned onto Union.
What is it about this Town that can't draw out more residents to public family oriented events or remembrance holidays? Case in point, there are never more than a few hundred people at the Friday night concerts. The same people go every year with few new faces.
I'll be interested to see how the MWDN spins their coverage tomorrow in the paper.
The League had some loyal member's show up and we proudly carried our banner with very good reception as we passed the police station.

I was one of the ones who turned out to watch and it was well worth it. Great community event that was free but was disappointed t the turnout from residents. What is everyone's problem? On another note, I did see limited coverage in MWD, but more extensive coverage on Source, but as usual, the LWV was left out of the Source coverage. That seems to be a pattern with Petroni. I am curious why she never seems to cover your events. Something I don't know, or is she just a biased reporter as I (and many others) think she is. I stopped relying on her for news because of the things she does not cover. She does a great job on the things she supports/likes but apparently you guys are on her shit list as she never seems to say anything about your events unless it is via a press release you send out. WTF?

Maybe a diversity officer could tell you why no one from the South Side showed up to watch the parade. On, wait a minute, we don't have a diversity officer in Framingham because we have no issues with diversity here in our City. What rock is that person sleeping under? Ask any resident for whom english is not their first language if there is a diversity issue in Framingham and I guarantee you the answer will be yes. But city councilors don't give a damm, they only want to spend time making the Mayor look bad. It has to beg the question of why most of those we elected are so clueless. How can you effectively run a city of you have no idea what is going on here?

Not on topic but wondering if anyone else found the comments of a city councilor about the Mayor's decision to sue big pharma to be disingenuous and ridiculous? Saying the action would discourage big pharma from coming to Framingham has absolutly no basis in fact. If in fact that would be the case then they would be coming no where at all in MA as the state is also suing big pharma. Is she so out of touch she does not even know what is going on in MA? That particular city councilor has a long history of mis-informing people so she is either just blame dumb, completely out of touch, or she is very dishonest. I personally go with the dishonest label. And I applaud another female city councilor for calling her on it since the men don't seem to have the backbone to stand up to her.

Petroni is very biased, and an atrocious writer.

It was poorly advertised to begin with. No fliers at school, only on source I guess. Why we didn't see each school is odd.

As the lawyer representing Purdue said today, it will be a very long and protracted case. At the end, if they are made to pay states settlement money like tobacco companies, it will pail to what the drug company make each year. It's piling on and hoping for some sort of money. But they will have to come up with a realistic number in real dollars, how much the opioid and specifically Perdue actual costs the City. It will be fascinating to see how much time, lawyer time, will be expended. We wont know that for years I'll bet. Our States AG was on the news tonight with a poster with all the names of people who have died using Perdue drugs.

Why stop at drug companies? The biggest scourge in this country is alcohol and the terrible effects it has on our society. We've been told for all our lives, alcohol is safe to consume. I'd bet the costs to the city for alcohol related crimes, traffic accidents, deaths, fights, domestic abuse and the cost to our health care system far out way anything that the drug companies are asked to be held accountable for.
