The Pittsburgh synagogue massacre over the weekend

To my Hebrew readers...I say my sorrow for the the families of those who were killed and wounded by the nut case who violated your synagogue makes me sick.  While the authorities dig into this madman's background, it's clear he's just not mentally impaired, but just filled with hate towards our fellow Americans who are Jewish.  No words can begin to explain his actions but it's clear, we have a problem in this country. Aside from antisemitism, the AR 15 debate is in full view. In my mind, no amount of praying will stop this carnage and the only partial solution is to stop allowing the sale of AR type assault rifles. Could he have shot that many people with a hand gun is not in my wheelhouse to know, but over and over again we see the results of people hell bent on killing other people getting their hands on assault style assault rifles.

You make some good points, especially that praying is not going to solve this issue we have with people killing a large number of innocent people because they have a machine gun and can shot after shot off before anyone can stop them. When are we going to see that this is just not acceptable behavior?

Do you know if the city is doing any type of vigil or service to support the Jewish community here in Framingham? Seems there is always someone doing something in light of a black person being injured and I fully support that, but what about when members of the jewish community are targeted, or don’t jewish lives matter here in Framingham? We should be reaching out to our synagogues right here in Framingham and offering our support but have not heard about anyone doing that.

The Mayor would be wise to do something... or maybe the Council... but they have up to this point been in front of anything. But:
Temple Beth Am is inviting you, along with the entire Framingham interfaith community and others, to our Friday night service this week (November 2nd at 7:15 PM, 300 Pleasant Street, Framingham, MA 01701)

The world is an ugly place and Saturday was just one example of that. This could happen anywhere. Framingham did that campaign a year or two ago about Framingham not being a community where hate can thrive. We need to see that again.

So, so sad. Thank you for writing about this instead of ignoring it. The city has been silent on this tragedy and I think we should be a more supportive community. This impacts all of us.

I grew up in a time when neighbors supported naighbors in times of sorrow and grief, and celebrated with neighbors in times of joy. If you ask me the world was a much safer place then because we all knew our neighbors and cared about them. We have lost that, and the loss of that connection leads to us thinking everyone who believes anything different from what we believe is our enemy. On that note what happened to all those neighborhood block parties the Mayor talked about hosting when she was running for office? I don't always know what is going on in Framingham so maybe I missed it but have any of these actually happened? Now might be a good time to hold one of these events.
