37th POW/MIA Remebrance Day Tauton Area Vietnam Veterans Asso
We attended the event on the Church Green on Sunday. It's always heart warming to see the loyalty and dedication to their fellow comrades in arms who have not yet come home from Vietnam. The guest speaker is someone I had tried to interview years ago but couldn't make it happen. Dudley Faraquar, Nam Vet and an advocate for the POW/MIA issue. Thanks to Dudley, after many years of trying, he got a POW MIA stamp. He did an interview a few years ago and his story is amazing and how he got involved with the issue is what movies are made from. I'm glad I had a chance to quickly tell him of my experience with the POW MIA flag here in the Ham.
If you have a 30 minutes to spare.. have a look see at his talk on you tube.

Thank you for always standing for our Veterans and our POW's Jim. It means a lot to those of us who served. Keep it up.
Curious what type of turn-out they had in Taunton. Framinghan has such a dismal turnout for anything related to veterans. Wondering if that is true in every community, and if not, what is the issue here in Framingham?
Never heard of this Nam Rememberance day. Is this a natinal thing? Did framingham do anything for this day?
Nam Vets are a part of the City. TAVVA has been around since 1983. The member's always show up and there was 30 to 40 people there, mostly Nam Vets. The Mayor, the City Council, Senator Warrens Office, Senator Pacheo, State Reps O'Connell and Orrall were there showing support as well. It's a whole different vibe down there. The Church gives them space and the oldest monument to Nam Vets is there as well.
I really don't know why we are so removed from Nam Vets in this Town. We have over 800 Nam Vets here in the Ham. And don't forget, our past VSO stood against the POW/MIA flags being flown at the Memorial building. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivZHKIGOD_Y
I know of 2 Nam Vets who live close to me and they want nothing to do with anything Vietnam related. They don't want their 50th Commemorative pin, nor do they show up on Memorial Day or Veterans Day. I get it... some just want to forget. Others I've met are still waiting to be welcomed home.
It's a thing that Taunton has done for 37 years. As far as I know they are the only ones. The 29th was National Vietnam Veterans Day and the National POW/MIA recognition day is in September.
Our VSO dosen't appear to want to be that involved with Nam Vet ceremonies.
Shame on our VSO. The Nam vets are just as important as any other Vet.
Great video on that link. Worth watching
