Brookline retail pot shop opens... no issue's reported

The closest store to Boston has opened right on Rte 9 in Brookline. No issues with crowds or traffic and the company served 2500 patrons. Hopefully the Mayor's marijuana SWAT Team has read the papers. Every day in delay here in the Ham, means less revenue for our Town. There has been a medical dispensary there for 3 years now and now people without a medical card can buy from this same spot. Notice who the first patron was... a BOS Town official.

As everyone stated the crowds would lessen as more shops opened to serve the public. This is a perfect example of that. There are only so many people in MA who want the product. Studies show 1 in 5 people in MA use the stuff, so 20%. That is about 1.4 million people. Not everyone is going to pay from one of these stores as many have been growing their own or have their own suppliers, both of which cost less than buying from a retail pot shop. This is not going to be the tax windfall many are talking about, but it will be a significant income stream

When we will have one open here in Framingham? How come so many communities are ahead of us?

More importantly when will we see the money coming in for these? Did the mayor include revenue from these shops in her 2020 budget proposal?

I don't believe the Mayor has counted on any additional revenue so far. Beacon Hill had in their budget revenue from pot at 60 million. I honestly don't think at this point, anyone in the administration really has thought about the potential increase in revenue for the next 5 years from all the players that want to do business here.

The Chair of the Council asked for a moratorium for almost a year and now the Mayor and her SWAT Team are just making matters worse by adding another layer of unnecessary oversight and regulations.

As the first poster writes.. not everybody is going to pay the 20% tax and I couldn't agree more. They (Mass)may have waited to long to gain an advantage over the black market with the opt-out provisions in the re-write of the ballot question. And the yahoo's who were given to much control over the roll-out.

Why is they mayor not including this income in her budget? Does she know something about the liklihood of retail shops opening here in Framingham that we don't?

Can we use this money to offset the water and sewer hikes? After all with a big grower moving here we will be using way more water in Framingham.

good point about water rates... the more the growers and manufacturing businesses use.. the better chances we have at lowering the increases. MWRA will be happy to have them as water customers.

The Mayor couldn't have forecasted any money last year because we had no shops, except one medical dispensary who will pay the town up to 500k for the next few years. Perhaps for the 2020 budget.
