Framingham will have a diversity chief...

As a senior citizen I wonder why we need to have a diversity chief, when we already have a African American Mayor who sets the objectives for hiring. As I watched the parade of supporters, I wondered where they were when Eurie Stamps was killed in his own home by a white police officer in 2011, different subject, same demographic of people asking for justice in hiring practices. I'd like to see more diversity in our teachers, police and fire departments, but what will it take for those potential candidates to apply for jobs here? Does it take a hired gun to force divisions to hire more diverse candidates and forsake those others who may not be diverse enough?
I will admit M Cannon seems to be the only councilman who even mentions the spending and the tax increases on our senior population.
I guess it's a done deal, but I don't see what happens if we don't have a more diverse group of employee's, next year or the year after or as time goes on.What then? seems like the Mayor is building a kingdom on the backs of tax payers.

I don’t think we need a full time person whose only focus is on making sure we are open to all when applying for jobs. Don’t we already have an HR person? Would that not be part of that job description? This is bullcrap and just another way for the mayor to stack up people who will support her. In 2 ½ years when she is no longer mayor, my guess is this position will be eliminated, so why even bother?

It makes no sense to me that this mayor spends more money than she has. She cuts the school budget, says all departments were expected to submit level funding budgets, but her budget is astronomical between no positions and her travel. When is the district council going to get their balls back and say enough is enough?

Good question... but who among them want to take the lead? G King seems to be the only one who has questioned anything, but has left out some low hanging fruit. A 400.00 dollar tax increase seems to be what they are proposing. And lets face it, the majority of the council wont be there next year and would not have to substantiate their position on the budget... so the lame ducks have it their way.
