LWV Hosts Informed Framingham Forum on Opioid Epidemic and the Court System
The Framingham League of Women Voters is hosting their next Informed Framingham forum on the Opioid Epidemic and the Court System on Wednesday, June 5.
The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Costin Room, Framingham Public Main
Library, 49 Lexington Street.
Our featured speakers are:
Honorable Judge Robert Ziemian, President of the NEADCP (New England
Association of Drug Court Professionals)
Roberta Leis, Executive Director of the NEADCP, who is also a Framingham LWV
member
Alice Casey, Chief of the District and Juvenile Courts and an Assistant District
Attorney with the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
The Framingham League of Women Voters was re-established in June of 2017 and has
been actively engaged in the community since its inception sponsoring debates, doing
voter registration at the summer Concerts on the Green, holding several League
sponsored Informed Framingham events, and with their cable access show. As a
nonpartisan grassroots organization, we encourage the informed and active
participation of citizens in government, work to increase understanding of major public
policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.
The LWV is open to all (including men) and is a citizens’ organization that has fought
since 1920 to improve our government and engage all citizens in the decisions that
impact their lives.

Impressive panel.
Are opioids really an issue here in Framingham?
Hey Jim how the hell could the LWV be so stupid to be used by Cannon and Sousa? Having people run for office at an event signing up new voters under the LVW umbrella? You think that makes the group look unbiased?!?! How could the group have been so careless with their credibility? Stupid, stupid, stupid.
according to the Police Chief.. 2 more died lat wee.
my hands are out for the ruler... I/we delegated the event to a member who should have known better and has done these before. I was involved with the last two years and had to miss this one at the High School.
It's our bad... and we do apologize for the mistake. We have learned our lesson and it won't ever happen again on my watch or Steph's.
I hope you all would forgive our lack of oversight.
I'm not even sure what was worse. The fact that it happened or that the LWV put up a damn picture on their website. So, Jim did the same person who should have known better at the high school also should have known better to not publicize it on the website after the fact, or were 2 people involved here?
This is Stephanie Deeley, President of the LWV. This was an honest mistake by a few people who had no intent to cause an issue. I sincerely apologize for this mistake and it is my responsibility to make sure these things don't happen, so it is ultimately my error. The LWV here in Framingham strives to be non-partisan without exception, and in this case, we failed to do that. I fully understand the concern you have expressed, and I assure you that I share your concern. But I do hope you will look at our track record and see that this is not in any way a pattern. We will be working hard over the next few months to earn back the trust and respect of those who were concerned about this action. I do believe that all pictures related to this event have been removed from public sites and I will double check that is the case. We will be re-visiting this policy at our next public meeting being held on June 12th and welcome anyone who would like to address this to attend that meeting.
I would like to reiterate that this was not done intentionally and it is my responsibility to make sure this does not happen. I am asking that those who question our non-partisan position take a look at what we have done over the last 3 years and give us a chance to prove we are worthy of the communities trust. We will be working hard to earn that.
Should you have any other questions, or if you would like to speak to me about this in person just let me know and I will do that. In the meantime, I do appreciate your letting us know your feelings on this. Just for the record, Jim was in no way involved in this process at all and is just as upset about what happened as I am.
LVWGate! Cannon. Completly reminds me of Stefanini.
LWVGate? Don't be so dramatic. The guy and Sousa wanted to help register students. They were volunteers. Doesn't the LWV always put a call out for help with their stuff? Its too bad there aren't more people in this town willing to volunteer instead of being keyboard warriors. The LWV apologized. Next.
Is it true MC was introducing himself as a Councilman? If he was then he was not volunteering, he has campaigning.
Well at least Stefinini aint holding a vote for me sign in the banner pic at the top of the League page.
That could be easily solved by photoshopping in a little John for Council where he is holding the little U.S. flag.
As you can see from the picture, that was taken at the Flag Day parade last year and has been on our Facebook page since then. We will replace it with a new picture soon. In the meantime, if you have an issue with anything related to the League of Women Voters of Framingham then please bring that to the League. This is not a LWV page or a LWV sponsored page. You can post a question on the LWV Facebook page which you obviously can find as you saw the picture. Or you can reach out to me directly and I will respond.
Going forward, I will ask Jim to delete any comments posted here related to the LWV because this is NOT a LWV site. I am more than happy to post any concerns anyone has on our Facebook page, and also more than happy to respond to any emails that are sent to the LWV or to me directly. It is not fair to Jim or to the blog readers to post things on here that are meant for the LWV.
I have posted an apology here, so not sure what else I can do, but would certainly by happy to meet and talk with anyone, or email with anyone, who has suggestions or concerns that are related to anything the LWV has done. I am not in any way censoring anyone. But Jim does not speak for the LWV, and his page is not a public space for the LWV. He posts about what is happening in MA, and in Framingham and that is why he posted about the Opioid event we held last night. If you have concerns related to the LWV, send them to the LWV where I will respond and will do so publicly if that is what you ask. But I will not be responding to posts here about the LWV after this one.
Thank you to all who have reached out about their concerns or to offer their support. I have responded to every single person who has reached out to the LWV or me directly and I will continue to do that. I welcome your comments so please send them along. Open and transparent discussion is the way to deal with any differences in ideas between people looking to solve an issue.
There is much to talk about here in Framingham and the LWV is actively involved in helping to facilitate those conversations. I hope you will all join the LWV in doing that and let's move forward together!
Well said Ms. Deeley and to all those chickens who post ridiculous statement from behind an anonymous post as I am doing grow up as you are not making the league look bad at all but are showing those of us who read this blog what a bunch of idiots we have here in Framingham and I suspect I know who some of these postings are from as she uses the same words I see here when talking about the league and given who that is I take it with a grain of salt.
I think the good the league has done far outweighs any mistake that was made so get over it and if you think you can do a better job join the league and run for president yourself but I doubt that will happen as you dont want to put in the time to make it work.
Well said Stephanie. As you said above it was a mistake that shouldn’t have happened and that the league will be working hard to regain that trust. I’m willing to give the league that chance. Thank you for reaching out to those bothered by what happened.
Have to thank Jim here for allowing anonymous comments. Given how Cannon continues to show his behavior at public meetings for those he appears to not like, I could not risk my business interests that could come before the Council by calling him out on a FaceBook page like the Women's League page.
Amen to that ^^^^^
