Smith resigns, Bernstein rejected by council, no appoligy

You saw it coming, Jason had no choice but to step down. Perhaps this will usher a new attitude from new coaches.

Long time planning board member Bernstein was rebuffed on many sides. She could be held responsible for the anti-sign campaign which pissed off a few major businesses along Rte 9.
But the City loses historical knowledge by not appointing her.

As I suspected last night's council meeting ran to almost 11pm when no one is watching. The COO presented the Mayor's report and once again, Cannon seems to be ready to pounce. I stayed up to see if Cannon or the Chair would offer some sort of olive branch, but it didn't come. As the COO said in his response to Cannon, "we go through this dance every two weeks".

All 6 pot shops are now approved by the marijuana swat team. It is noteworthy that 3 years ago this month voters approved the ballot question legalizing marijuana. Our city missed out on a sizable chunk of revenue in delaying the will of the voters.

Good news on Smith, I get the concern about Bernstein but agree we lose a lot of institutinal knowledge not appointing here, and shame on Cannon. Was he not paying attention when for every one of the LWV debates a questions was submitted from the audience about how to improve relations with the mayor. Guess he thinks he is golden as no one ran against him, but next time I suspect that will change. Giombetti tried to reign Cannon on, but he was not very successful at doing that.

Anyone want to venture a guess about how little to none the Source will do for a followup besides just printing Smith's letter telling his side?

I suspect there will be no follow-up at all.

How they improve relations with the Mayor was a common question to all. And after all this bickering, Giombetti finally suggests the COO and Cannon meet off-line.

Two more years of friction does us no good.

Another subject at the LWV forums were the tax increases. Lowering the amount per thousand assessed is a good step, but all our our houses increased in value by 8 or so percent. Nothing we can do about that. The housing shortage plays a major roll in the rising property values.
The Patch sent this out this morning.

The tax rate in Framingham will be lower this year, but property owners will likely see higher bills because of rising property values.
The Framingham City Council voted on the fiscal year 2020 rates after a hearing Tuesday night. The fiscal year began in July after the city approved the budget.
The rates will be as follows, subject to approval by Mayor Yvonne Spicer and state tax officials:
• Residential — $14.96 per $1,000 of assessed value
• Commercial — $32.26 per $1,000 of assessed value
• Industrial — $32.26 per $1,000 of assessed value
• Personal Property — $32.26 per $1,000 of assessed value
The residential rate in fiscal 2019 was $15.38 per $1,000, and the average home value was about $419,000. But resident values have increased by almost 8 percent this year. The average value of a home in Framingham is now about $439,000. A property tax bill on an average home will be $6,577 in fiscal 2020, about $175 higher than fiscal 2019.

Owners of multifamily properties will likely see the worst of the increase because those properties have been rising in value more than single-family homes. Property owners will be able to see fiscal 2020 assessed values by mid-December.
As in recent years, the Council opted for a split tax rate, shifting some of the residential burden onto commercial and industrial properties — this is the so-called CIP shift. The fiscal 2020 shift was 1.72, same as last year. If the Council had opted for a single flat tax rate, all property owners would've paid $18.75 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Which just shows how in the bag Petroni is. Can't count on it for reporting if there is anything bad about her friends, but opened floodgates when its against her friend's enemies.

I don't read or follow the Source because too often she is ignoring important information that will paint an ugly picture of her friends, and promotes bad news about those she does not like. That is not what an experienced, respected, or qualified reporter does. Perfect example was how there was nothing in Source about Leombruno's money from outside sources. Big story everywhere else, but not on Source. She was fired by the Patch, or "let go" by the Patch which prompted her starting her own on line news source. But I am beginning to see why she is no longer with the Patch. She does no work, and is a lazy reporter. She posts press releases, takes pictures from others without crediting where they come from, and has been caught stealing stories word for word from others. that is not a reporter. No way, no shape, no form. But because she is a news source, and can and does promote bad stories about those she does not like, no one speaks out against her publicly. But a lot fewer people read her than she claims. They just don't admit they get their news from reputable sources instead of the Source.

That character assassination of Bernstein last night should not have been allowed by the Chair of the Council. Shame on him

I agree with above... but he got his licks in at the whipping post imo.

I agree. Have to say I am glad the chair is leaving, but wish Cannon was leaving also as he is often the root of the contentious attitude.

Agree above about Cannon. For the next 2 years we will continue to see him put on his big boy suit jacket and try to act like a tough guy which will just continue to poison the relationship between the Council and the Mayor's office.

maybe if the Mayor or Keizer actually responded to an email from Cannon, they might not find themselves being asked the same questions all the time. It goes both ways, folks.
