Our Goverment lying about the Afghan war

The NY Times reviewed thousands of pages of documents detailing the war in Afghanistan which concludes that like another unpopular war (Vietnam) high ranking officials have hid the mis-steps and failures of the war, while saying to the public, we were winning the war.
Since 2001, 2,200 US troops have been killed. More than 50K Afghan security forces have been killed.
The US has spent 1 TRILLION dollars, 133 billion for reconstruction, 83 Billion of training army and police forces.
The similarities to the Vietnam conflict are striking as it was only later after thousands had died and thousands wounded did Americans get the truth that the war was un-winable.
No wonder why many Americans don't believe a word that comes from our elected leaders.

This has got to change. If they are not absolutely sure of what they are fighting for and what they expect to achieve how dare they send our young people in to sacrifice their lives. This is unhumane, unjust, and simply ludicrous.

I agree with the previous poster. Has this all fallen apart under the current president or has this been going on for years and years, as the story seems to imply?

A repeat of VietNam is not what this country needs. Our elected, and our officers in uniform, need to be more honest and transparent with us. How can they make such bad, uninformed decisions when young people's lives are on the line?

The fact that this surprises anyone is a surprise to me

In spite of this our Congress is spending all their time on impeachment. I think impeachment is necessary but am appalled that the republicans are making this a long, dragged out process by ignoring the Constitution. This issues of our foreign policy need to be addressed!
