are we in danger of losing MWDN?
This news is terrible for our Town. We need a local paper in a community this large and a region this important to the States economy. The paper went down hill after Rick retired as they never hired an opinion editor and waited to long to get a local unbiased reporter.

Of the 200 daily newspapers at the
newly merged Gannett Co. that file print circulation numbers publicly, more
than 80% are losing circulation at a faster rate than the national average and
10% are declining at twice that rate or more, according to a Business Journal
analysis.
Two of the nine daily Gannett papers
here in Massachusetts — the Fall River Herald News and the MetroWest Daily News
— are among those losing readers the fastest.
The Business Journal's analysis of
the past two years' worth of circulation data filed with the Alliance for
Audited Media (AAM) could provide clues as to which newspapers Gannett may
target with staff cuts, closures or potential mergers with other publications.
This week, the $1.2 billion merger of Virginia-based Gannett (NYSE: GCI) and New
York-based New Media Holdings Group (NYSE: NEWM) was completed, forming the
nation’s largest newspaper chain.

THey are not the greatest paper in the state, but they are cetainly the best news source for our area, with Patch taking second place. Framingham Source is not even a news source. All she does is published other people's stories unless it involves school things, or her friends. We need to support local papers. I encourage you all to think about what it would be like here in Framingham without the MW Daily. Subscribe, or at least buy the paper at the store. If we want good reporting, then we have to support those doing it.
Local papers with local reporters is what is needed in every community in America. We have that here. Lets support that.
Good, factual, reliable, and timely news is worth its weight in gold. The only place to get that here in Framingham is from the metrowest newspaper so we need to show Garnett we support the work they are doing to keep our community informed.
MW Daily is the only real news source for our area. May not be a great paper, but it is the only news outlet worth supporting if you ask me. I hear people complain a lot about the paper being too expensive, and then about it not covering enough local stories. News flash people. If you are not willing to pay the price for good local reporting, then you are not going to get it. Reporters do not work for free. You want stories like the in depth reporting on the police issues Jim Hadanin wrote, or the story about the failure of the system in a domestic violence case the Cody Shepard wrote, or breakdown of the elections done by the editorial staff, then you need to support them doing that work. It is a no brainer people. The Source charges what their stories are worth, nothing. The Patch charges what they can get, nothing. Their support comes from advertisers and if you think that does not influence the stories they run then you are not paying attention. If we let the MW Daily go down, then we will never have another unbiased, credible, and worthwhile news source for our local news. Don’t let that happen, and if you do let that happen, then don’t bitch about it to those of us who support their work.
Good information about this so thanks for posting. I subscribe to the Daily News and encourage others to do the same. If you are not willing to support local press then you are contributing the the rise of fake news. Those writing the real news work hard and need to be paid for that work. Let's show that here in Framingham we support that effort. Off for the holiday now. happy Thanksgiving everyone
I read MW Daily on line with an online only subscription which is pretty cheap. Try it out if you are not currently reading the MetoWest Daily and I think you will see you get your money’s worth.
This is happening everywhere. Papers are not able to survive because people get their news on line for free. But remember, you get what you pay for. I encourage people to support the only unbiased, investigative news source we have. Do you think the Source is going to do in depth stories? She is a one person operation after all these years because she can not generate enough support to hire reporters. Think about that.
Think about the impact of this people. You only source for local news being the Patch. You will be informed about sports and scandal and nothing else.
The Metro West Daily News is very active in our community. They co sponsor candidate forums and other events, they moderate the democratic town wide committee debates. They are a well run business. But they need people to support the work they do if we want them to continue to be a part of our community. If they go under it is a huge loss for Framingham. The only local good news source available to us at that point is the Globe, and they are not very good at covering anything here in Metro West. I urge you to support your local paper.
not good news for framingham hope that this does not happen newspapers are being ignored as people fall for the presidents lies that all news against him is fake news and the freedom of the press is being demolished if for no other reason we should all support our local paper to maintain that press freedom
I just hope the bosses at Garnett don't trim the work force at the paper. They are already running a skeleton crew.
I still contend that an editorial writer would help boost subscribers but understand they don't come cheep. Why hire someone when you can just pick editorials that are from the Washington Post, which have no relation to Framingham directly.
That's one way they save money.
