Ideas for Transportation funding
In the Globe today a piece of what Beacon Hill is pondering to inflict on everyone in the State who drives. One idea that some legislators have is to put tolls on the roads that boarder our State. It's time they find the courage to do so as the pike users have been the only people who pay tolls, that were supposed to be removed many years ago. It's about fairness and spreading the burden around in my mind.
One proposal would inflict a gas tax on everyone in the State. I think this idea would benefit the out of State drivers who live in States that do not have a .26 cents a gallon state tax.
I completely agree we need a huge chunk of money to be raised to help with our transportation re-structuring, but I fear it may be wasted by Beacon hill and their lobbyists.
If anyone has an idea and would like to voice their opinion to their State Reps, now is the time to do so. I sent a note to Maria this morning and suggest anyone who feels the need to be heard do so to the three who represent Framingham.

Not only are Pike drivers unfairly charged tolls, but the Pike roads are some of the worst I drive on. They should be using our tolls to fix the roads we drive on.
Question Jim. How can MA impose tolls on roads that border our state and collect those tolls< If they border our state they are not in MA so how can we put tolls on them or am I missing something here?
Does this funding cover that Allston Brighton project or is that money coming from the Feds?
I think at every border where you cross from another state into MA there should be a toll. You drive on our roads, you pay for their upkeep. If you only drive in MA on limited occasions not a bod deal but lots of commuters drive from NH, RI to work in Boston every day. They should pay
Tolling is unfair and discriminatory for those who live in the MetroWest area. Try doing this to those who live on the South Shore, some of the richest communities in the state, and you would never get away with charging them to drive on roads
Sending off an email now. Thanks for the heads up
I believe the Allston Big dig is federally funded
I did hear back from Maria and she appears to be in our corner. Any legislator west of the City should band together to demand fairness in tolling in any new revenue proposals.
Good that Robinson is on board. You are right, time for us on MW to stick together!
