Pre Pandemic news

Before our world came to a screeching halt and my loved one started working from home, a few interesting things happened, which now seem less important than worrying about how we can stay away from everyone.

From the Globe, John Ellement

SJC rules mugshots of police and judges are public and thus open to public record requests. The Globe has tried for years to get information, (mug shots and arrest records) on cops and judges who are busted for drunk driving.  "The public has a vital interest in ensuring transparency where the behavior of these public officials allegedly fails to comport with the heightened standards attendant to their office" Chief Justice Ralph Gants wrote in the 6-0 ruling.
In another part of this, the SJC unanimously ruled that government agencies must extract data from their electronic records to comply with requests. The law had allowed the government to deny requests if the information sought would force them to create a "new record"

From the MWnext Day News, Toni Caushi reports that "Some towns are missing pot tax windfall". What is so infuriating is that this reporter doesn't have the historical knowledge to ask why Framingham is missing the tax windfall that other communities are enjoying.

Since paying more attention to the need for our schools to feed so many kids (all grades) years ago, I'm disheartened to know that the number of kids who are food challenged is 4000 today. And as this pandemic looks to cause more health and economic problems, that number may get higher.  How has the number grown so high in what was a booming economy?

Thanks for the info. Have missed you posting. Great news on the info about cops and judges. They should not be treated any differently than the rest of us

Was worried about you since you had not ousted recently. Glad you are back. Was your loved one bring home keeping you too busy to post here? Tell her we need your info sharing as not all of us can afford to subscribe to multiple papers as you do

Jim 4000 food insecure kids is a big number. Any idea what that number was last year? 5 years ago? Just curious about if/how much this has imcreadef

I seem to remember 40% of the total student population were in need years ago when we had fewer children in schools. I think it's always been high mainly because of our inexpensive housing on the south side.

That 4 thousand kids needing food was in good economic times for most residents just a few weeks ago. Now, with thousands of lower wage earners without jobs, I can only see that number rising.

I guess I wonder how the hell it got so bad and what role our schools play, not only for learning, but providing safe shelter, food, health care, guidance, etc etc etc.

When we recover from this nightmare, the CC should put together a Task Force to identify any reasons why so many children are going without food at home.

Isn’t the reason obvious? They come from poor families. To get subsidized lunches you must meet income guidelines set by the Feds right?

I believe so in the bigger picture... money from the feds... but I think our schools don't do any vetting now since they decided to feed everyone, regardless of economic status.

And I can't explain why only 200 meals were given out yesterday between 4 grade schools.
This number begs the question, are we getting the message out? 2 hundred of the 4 thousand kids in need should be investigated. This report lacks credible verified information. I just read... the three FFF's who were tested last week...have had their tests come back negative. Great... why don't we hear that from the BOH?
