What will the Mayor suggest to address the water defict?

Tonight at 7PM on your local gov tv channel, the fianace sub committee will hear from the Mayor on what can be done to plug the 2.5 miilion dollar water&sewer deficit and perhaps what can she suggest to adress the structual deficit in next years budget.

If I were the Mayor, I'd take 2.5 million from free cash to solve the immediate problem and send out the tax bills on time. I would not take 800k from the schools and let the 100k reduction in water&sewer stand.

The notion that Cannon continues to push for, the "efficiencies" that were guaranteed to happen during the city debate, imo, will not make up the shortfall, since we know, many large commercial water users may not return to normal next year.

On top of the deficit, there may be a larger request for money from the DPW in sanitation. With so many people at home, the amount of trash and recycling is increasing and I'll bet they come to the council for more money early first quarter in 2021.

We can't live without water and sewer and also trash and recycling services.

This is poor planning on the part of the mayor, and even poorer planning on the part of the district council. The finance committee recommended deeper cuts to the budget last year to cover expected shortfalls, but when they brought their proposal back to the council as a whole their suggestions were defeated. What is the purpose of these sub councils if the council as a whole does not listen to what they say? This is a mess, and as Jim indicates there are more issues like this bound to come up in the next year all because our CFO, our COO, or Mayor and our DC have absolutely no idea how to manage budgets.

last nights meeting

so they voted (3 to 2) NOT to use the 2.5 million from free cash to plug the deficit. They will now have until March to find a solution to the problems, caused in part by the pandemic and the lack of water usage, this past year, this year and perhaps even into next year.

It was clear last night, the Mayor wasn't going to be a part of any discussion with the council...she left it to MEK to fend off the attack.

Time will tell if the DC made the right decision.

Here we go again. So tonight the entire council will consider options but I bet once again with the mayor there. She has been silent on this issue for the last 10 days since proposing she steal $800,000 from the school budget. No time to deal with this huge deficeit when she is busy raising money with Walsh and Kennedy to run for re-election as Mayor. She is living in a dream world if she thinks she has a chance of a snowball in hell of being reelected.

Guess the mayor had better things to do than deal with the cities huge financial crisis. Curious exactly what she had going on that was more important than this is!

So, the FSC will be in the zoom meeting with the finance sub-committee, the Mayor, CFO, etc. Supposedly to find a way to plug the 2.5-million-dollar deficit in water and sewer. 12.22.20 7PM on your gov tv channel. I can't imagine the SC would agree to take money from their budget.
I did hear that there's money in the aid package for schools and feeding the hungry, but only if Trump signs it.

I heard it a second time about the medicare payment that will come from the municipal budget cuts. I'd like to know more about it and why the school side doesn't pay into it as swell.

Cannon pushed not funding that Medicare payment which meant it had to come out of other departments budgets. Then he convinced others to go along with him. Extremely poor management to not find a payment like that. He clearly has absolutely no understanding of managing a budget. Did he think not approving funding would mean we did not have to pay? That type of ignorance is what got us into this mess with the water and sewer deficit. He is an idiot
