State spraying forever chemcials to kill mosquitoes

Something to ponder when the State wants to spray your property to kill mosquitoes. Many environmentalists have sounded the alarm over the chemicals used to kill the little buggers for years. You can always opt out of the spraying program. You can read what the State has to say about it and how to opt out here: https://www.mass.gov/service-details/mosquito-control-and-spraying

For two decades, state environmental officials have used a controversial pesticide to kill mosquitoes in Massachusetts, spraying millions of acres from the air and ground to reduce the spread of Eastern equine encephalitis.

Now, after years of criticism from environmental advocates who have long raised health concerns about the expensive treatment known as Anvil 10+10, the pesticide has been found to also contain an array of toxic compounds known as PFAS. The so-called “forever chemicals,” which are found in a range of commercial products and never fully degrade, have been linked to cancer, low infant birth weights, and a range of diseases.

The amount of some of the chemicals found in the pesticide — which has been used in at least 25 other states — exceeds recent safety limits imposed by the state for drinking water. Given the amount of pesticide used, and how widely it has been dispersed over the years, specialists say it’s likely that the chemicals have leached into ground water and other water sources.

does that mean that if someone who lives in Framingham and had that spray on their property gets sick they can sue the city for using a dangerous chemical on them without telling them?

It's a State program. The only thing residents can do is opt out of the spraying. Perhaps someday the feds will ban the use of these forever chemicals.

I think there is more that can be done if someone gets sick.Go after the Feds. They know this stuff is hazardous but the spray it in our yards anyway where kids play. What is their reasoning for that?

the treat of EEE is so inflated with extreme exaggerations which the feds and State government pretend that they use these chemicals to ward off threats to public and animal health. This somewhat reminds me of the round-up litigation that has started. The rulers who control the permitted use, take campaign contributions from all those companies who make the stuff.
If we are indeed in a new era of allowing science to guide us... then we should strongly consider what they say about forever chemicals.

What is the Roundup Settlement you are refering to Jim?

If you recall... last year, a long term janitor from a school won a huge settlement from the makers of round-up. It was determined in court that the company knew all along that round-up could cause all types of cancer but kept selling it even today. Thousands of people across this country who have been diagnosed with all types of blood cancer are part of a major class action suit against Monsanto. Billions of dollars have been court approved to settle claims against the company, some 3 decades later.
