The Mayor and her texts

I'm sure by now our readers have heard about the text messages from The Mayor and the COO during a council meeting. She said said that they (council) were A- holes and disgusting,  the COO played along. If you've ever watched a complete council meeting, you may have thought the same about them as the Mayor put in a text.

All this comes from a FIOA request by the Source and to be honest, I've watched the show and couldn't see why Susan picked that meeting to request texts between the Mayor and COO.  You can view the show at http://207.172.210.8:5002/CablecastPublicSite/show/2105?channel=1,

go to the Mayor's report close to the end to see the interaction between "the short one" and the COO. I'm not a fan of Thatcher but understand and respect his varied municipal and military experience. I also think he could squash the short one like a bug.

Also, the Mayor called out a few councilors, Long and Case. But the funniest text was about "The short one". Now were not supposed to pick on any body type, but most people know who that is, and make no mistake, is the smallest antagonistic one on the council. He's always polite, but argumentative and arrogant. But not in person.

Right from the start, the old timers who thought John would be Mayor, disliked the fact that a black women, with zero municipal experience got elected. The hard feelings were apparent at the start and continued at almost every opportunity to stand against her. Judy Grove lead the charge, along with "The Short One", Cheryl Stoll, with back-up vocals from Dennis, Charlie and Mike.

So my suggestion is to ban texting (like we did at Town Meetings not that it stopped anyone), but now, texts are public documents if your in a public meeting.

So today the Mayor issued a press release

On Friday, a local, politically motivated blog posted text messages between the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and me during a City Council meeting. The blog asked me for a statement. I chose not to provide one because the blog entry was meant to embarrass me, and any statement would be subject to the whims and political goals of the blog and its advocates. Instead, I prefer to own my narrative.

At the outset, I want to apologize to the City Council and Framingham residents for my comments on what I thought was a private text exchange.  I also believe it is important to share some of the context with you, which was absent, and what led me to make these remarks.

A significant part of the texting between the COO and I was a reaction to one Councilor’s criticism of professional City staff, which was inaccurate and unfair. The Councilor in question levied claims against an employee that were patently false. All City employees are going above and beyond to maintain the level of service residents expect while ensuring that Framingham residents stay safe. I feel the need to defend employees against unfounded and false criticism and reserve the right to be disgusted by such inaccuracies. Any boss would do the same for his or her employees if claims were incorrect.

The attempts to publicly embarrass City employees is disgraceful and is something that started with some members of the Council elected prior to the current one and continue now. I have asked the Chair to use his leadership and share concerns about professional staff privately so those concerns can be dealt with appropriately. The public bullying the Council perpetuates comes down to political theater and lacks credibility. This is not leadership.

Additionally, I was reacting to what appeared as a lack of support from other Councilors who did not try to defend our employees. That is frustrating, but it only lasts for a moment, and I move on. However, I use every ounce of this frustration to motivate me to protect Framingham and our employees further.

Isn't the short one your councilor Jim? He is hands down the biggest antagonist pain in the ass on the Council. He couldn't give a damn about your discrict Jim as long as he could use his position of power to take a swipe at Spicey. Perhaps the councilors sermonizing on the bad behavior should open their phones texts, emails, and social media accounts for the rest of us to scrutinize.

I just read a very good point... and it didn't even dawn on me

The Mayor and COO never thought their texts would be made public. It was the boss... venting to her second in command.

He's the one

I couldn't agree more... if we saw what others have written about her or them, we wouldn't be surprised.

I wonder what George is going to say publicly about the behavior of his people and the Mayor's tweets. Will he take Cannon out behind the Town Hall and give him a good spanking? I bet by now... everyone involved has wiped their phones clean of any comments.

Cannon will in no way be reprimanded. From the start it was easy to see that both Giombetti and King would not reign him in since he is saying what they want to say but are afraid to say since it could make them look bad politicly.

The mayor is way wrong. There are two other councilors who are way more deserving of the title a$$hole

Cannon is the problem on the Council and has been since day one. You can teach anyone anything, but you can not teach anyone class, and he is lacking in that for sure. Plus he is a misogynist. He has no place on the Council but no one will run against him because he is nasty and who wants to put up with his shit. It is King's responsibility to run a good meeting and when it comes to Cannon he is failing miserably, but I don't expect he will grow any balls anytime soom.

This is not about the council, it is about the Mayor's irresponsible, rude and unprofessional behavior. She claims she was protecting her employees. News flash, city councilors are in the broad picture her employees also as they are "paid" by the city for their service as councilors so to claim she was bad mouthing them to protect her employees is a sad excuse for her unprofessional behavior. She is like Trump, she has a excuse for every single thing she does no matter how bad it is. She needs to be gone, and yes, there are some councilors that need to be gone also. Hopefully she will not be serving a second term

What is the back story about why Canon acts like he does? Did the mayor embarrass him or something and he is on some type of quest for revenge? He acts like how a jilted lover would act.

Not that I know of... they barely knew each other at Town Meeting, but isn't it obvious? he backed John and not a black women with no municipal experience with local government. He's never hidden the fact that in his words, was "a bit of a kermudgean" at Town meeting years ago. I believe that's swahelly for "little prick", but don't quote me.
I had not thought about the jilted lover angle..I don't think it's that deep, but maybe
I agree Dennis or George could have reined him in before this point, but they needed an outlet for their frustration and he filled that spot.
I'll bet a dozen donuts, he's on his best behavior from here on out and no one will be texting.

I'll bet you'll be out a dozen donuts in less than a month.

Do you believe Spicer being African American has anything to do with how she is treated? Jim you are the one that brought up that she is a black woman.

I firmly believe and a case to affirm my briefs was in the news this week. Have a look-see at this report from GBH. A new city councilor in Everett is being asked to resign because she won't attend meetings in person. Her name is Gerly Adrien, works at a hospital and has at risk member's of her family living in the house.

https://www.wgbh.org/news/local-news/2020/11/12/everett-city-councilor-gerly-adrien-speaks-out-on-colleagues-pressuring-her-to-resign

The same parallels can be drawn here in the Ham. None of the white ruling class ever expected Yvonne to win and when she defeated John, they never got over it. I'd also make the case for the way the Republicans treated Obama for 8 years, it's the very same thing imo.

Wow Jim the parallels are uncanny. Thanks for sharing.

Cannon needs to go. He brings absolutely no value to the Council. He spends all his time pointing out what he claims are failures of the mayor and her staff and not time actually making Framingham better. Vote him out people if you want a more civil and respectful Council

The mayor needs to apologize publically to those she bad-mouthed, and to the residents of Framingham for wasting her time texting this bull crap while attending a city meeting. She gets paid an awful lot of money and spends an awful lot of her paid time being an asshole

If you're going to make the mayor apologize for what she said in a private text conversation between 2 people, are you going to make those city councilors who have made comments to people about the mayor that would make a truck driver blush apologize as well?

so no public apologies from the Mayor or anyone else. Cannon will not miss any opportunity to rag on the Mayor. I wonder if they all were still texting.

How many dozen donuts did you loose on your bet? Betting on Cannon being able to stay on his best behavior was easy money to bet against.

I thought he was rather subdued last night and George just let him slide. Donuts all around.

Did the mayor give a lollipop to the little one so that he would sit quietly in his highchair?
