Some of the Mayor's loudest critics
If you glance at FB over the past 6 months or so you may have noticed an anger in the postings from some in our community. These are mostly white men who from the beginning of becoming a city have found fault with everything the Mayor has done or not done.
The flyers we all received from the two politicians were no different from those in the past. Both hit on perceived accomplishments from the past with a promise of a better future if one is elected over the other.
But never before do I remember the anger towards one candidate, who just happens to be a black female. It's been my experience over the past 50 years that some religions despise other races. They wont say it.... but they do.
The primary is tomorrow... I predict no more than 10% turnout. And many have just tuned-out

Spot on Jim!!!!!!
The old white guys lost their chance for the full power grab and now will resort to anything to get it back.
One of the mayoral candidates said there is no bigotry in Framingham. I think he is too old to know what is going on if he truly believes that but whatever the reason I hope no one would vote for someone who things bigotry has just passed over Framingham
Framingham has an organization recognized as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Group; swastikas were painted on a sign at a Temple here in Framingham in the past week; a Muslim student was bullied at school; and a black senior citizen was shot in his own home while lying on the floor by a police officer, and the list goes on. If you don't think that indicates we have a an issue with racism/bigotry here in Framingham then vote for the candidate who agrees with you. The rest of us who pay attention to what is happening in Framingham will cast our vote for someone else.
I really don't care who you vote for, just vote!
Jim Pillsbury I'm not sure if the issue was that she was African American. I think the issue was that she was not part of the political power clique and she did not do the back room deal shenanigans.
I agree with the previous poster. Honesty, integrity and knowledge is not something residents of Framingham value in their politicians. If you speak the truth here, that well know group that runs things behind the scenes will take you out and fear of that runs our political machine here in the Ham.
Not as bad a showing as I had thought. 17% is not that bad for a primary. The higher number precincts are still not showing up to the polls.
I won't disagree with the past two posts. The Mayor never went groveling for approval from the white guys.
Looking at it another way, about 84 percent of the city's eligible voters elected not to participate or render their input on who our next mayor should be.
Is that because they don't care or is it that they believe the political process is corrupt?
I think it is several factors. For one, there was only one contested primary in the city council races, so there really wasn't much of an incentive to go vote for my councilman or my friend running for council. While the mayor's race is a pretty big ticket, if there are no other contested races in most districts, either for school committee or city council, most people can't be bothered.
Second, those plugged in who chose not to vote may have figured the outcome of the preliminary race was fairly evident, at least insofar as the two top vote-getters. They may have felt it pointless to vote now when they knew which two candidates would likely advance to November, so if they don't need to show up now, it saves themselves a trip to the polls or the short time it takes to fill out and mail a ballot.
Finally, for some, there may have been sheer burnout from last year and even the start of this year. I think a lot of people were riled up over the 2020 elections, especially whilst in the middle of a pandemic, and since then, pandemic politics has really beaten people down. So for many, they may have simply been tapped out at this point.
the previous poster makes a great deal of sense. I hope those who are tapped out return to the polls in November.
The mayor is no fave of mine but she was pivotal in keeping Stefanini out of power. But will Charles in Charge be any better? Things will just go back to the scumbag politics that we used to have.
You don’t have the right analogy. It’s not the Charles in Charge. It will be more who is the person behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz.
