Masks are back.. for some

 Looks like Middlesex County is not subject to the revised mask requirement. But I've not stopped wearing mine in stores since the beginning. I hope Baker and the School Chief Riley mandate the masks in school until ALL the kids, teachers and staff get vaxed. It saddens me that some parents are making matters worse by imposing their radical views on their children about wearing masks. For the good of society in general, shots must be mandated by employers including all government employees and contractors.

From the Globe:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday announced an update to its mask-wearing guidance, now suggesting that fully vaccinated people wear masks in indoor, public places in areas of the country with “substantial and high” transmission.

So, what does that mean for Massachusetts?

There are five counties in Massachusetts that qualify as “substantial” or “high” transmission areas, according to the CDC.

High Transmission
Barnstable County

Substantial Transmission
Bristol County
Dukes County
Nantucket County
Suffolk County

In the wake of the CDC reversal, over 200 public health and medical experts called on Baker and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley to implement universal indoor masking for the 2021-2022 school year .

The letters circulated by Sen. Becca Rausch were authored by Dr. Regina LaRocque of Harvard Medical School and Dr. Natalya Davis, a Quincy pediatrician.

"The rapid, ongoing spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 delta variant in Massachusetts represents a serious risk as the 2021-2022 school year begins," LaRocque said. "Young children lack protection from disease, and vaccination rates among adolescents are insufficient to prevent outbreaks in school communities."

The Delta variant, a highly contagious version of COVID-19, has contributed to rising new daily new case counts in Massachusetts.. State health officials reported 657 confirmed cases of COVID-19 yesterday and 12 confirmed deaths.

The Delta variant may not be a major issue in this county currently, but if restrictions are too loose, it will become a problem for sure. We cannot afford to play these games again.
There is no reason to wait on DESE Just impose the stricter regulations locally and then if things improve and more people are vaccinated, etc., then you can reassess. The problem last year was the constant starts/stops and fits and starts with respect to the return to school decision-making, often being reactive rather than proactive.

I am hearing more and more about how bad this could be when schools open. I think we need to have masks on all kids to protect the kids whose parents don't love them enough to get them vacinated. And then I think all those parents who are not vacinating their kids should be charged with child abuse. This is so ridiculou.

I think Framingham should require masks in all schools. Who knows which kids are vacinated and which kids aren't and I don't want my kid to be exposed by some other kid who is old enough for the vaccine but who has chosen to not get vaccinated. They have the right to risk their own lives but not my kids life

I too hope the school mandates masks for both employee's and kids.

From the Mayor's office:
Face Coverings Required in Public Framingham Municipal Buildings Effective Thursday, August 5: Today, Mayor Yvonne M. Spicer issued an order stating that all persons (including visitors and employees) over the age of five entering City of Framingham municipal buildings shall wear a clean face covering, such as a fabric face mask, scarf, or bandana, over their mouth and nose, and exercise social distancing in accordance with CDC guidelines due to increasing COVID-19 cases. Framingham buildings include the Callahan Center, Libraries, Memorial Building, Police and Fire Buildings, Parks & Recreation Administration, and the DPW Operations Center. The Framingham Board of Health (BOH) will review the order Tuesday, August 10, during their regularly scheduled meeting. It is expected the BOH will be in support of the order. Those who are exempt from the face coverings requirement include:

Children under five years of age
Persons for whom a face mask or covering creates a health risk or is not safe because of any of the following conditions or circumstances:

Face mask or covering affects the person’s ability to breathe safely;
Person has a mental health or other medical diagnosis that advises against wearing a face mask or covering;
Person has a disability that prevents them from wearing a face mask or covering; or
Person depends on supplemental oxygen to breathe.

This gets worse every day and if we are not going to protect our kids, and others, by requiring face masks in schools then how are we going to feel if god forbid some kid gets really sick, or worse, because we did not want to "inconvenience" them with a mask
