Glad to see you get involved at the roots. Important for new voices to be heard at Town Meeting, especially now. I think the most critical issue is budget cuts, how many have to be made and where we make them. I don’t think anything should be off the table. I also think we need to be more proactive in finding funding sources from the state, through grants, or whatever means we can utilize. As a town we have to be well informed and aware of what help there is out there for us, and make sure that we take advantage of every single penny we can get. I also would like to know more about property taxes on foreclosed properties, how many homes in town are in arrears on their taxes, and how much money that is. If it is a lot of money, then we need to figure out how to do something about that. And last, detail pay for cops. That has to be astronomical. There must be a better way of handling that. How much of the police budget is spent on overtime, and of that overtime, how much is for details?

I agree about budgets being the issue. And how much we are spending on lawsuits in this town. I think the SMOC issue needs to have a cap on what we are willing to spend. At some point, the amount we are spending on the lawsuit will be more than we could hope to gain financially even if we won the suit, so why bother going to court? And the lawsuit for the cops pay, not sure I understand that, but how much is that costing the town, and how much more may we have to spend? Can we set a limit beyond which the town can no committ to legal payments without going before town meeting to ask for more money?

Thanks for asking what we think. How do we get businesses in town to pick up more of the tax burden? We should look into doing something about that.

As a resident, I would like to have something in front of me prior to town meeting that tells me what the issues are. What is the police department budget? What is the town managers budget? What is the public works budget? And where are the cuts in those budgets being proposed? Give me a chance as a resident to look at it and then talk to my town meeting member about what I think. Does me no good if I don’t hear about any of this until I watch the town meeting on cable access and they are getting ready to vote on these things. Thanks for running Jim, it is a thankless job. And thanks for asking what we want. I am not in your precinct but I suspect you will be a voice we will all hear at town meeting.

How about doing something on the tax rate for the senior citizens in this town? If you don’t stop raising taxes, we are all going to have to give up the homes we have lived in and paid off because we can not afford the up keep and the taxes?

I think we need to reasses the whole town government process in this town. I watch these meeting on local access and for so many of them it seems they are just a forum for every one in town who has something to say to get up and say it. Last night’s selectman’s meeting was a good example of that. Some guy went on and on about the history of the farm water issue. What the heck was the purpose of that? What does stuff that happened in 1941 or 1932 got to do with the issues we are dealing with now? Same thing happens at town meeting. Good people don’t get involved because the process takes so long to accomplish anything. There has to be a better way to get things done.

Glad to hear you are running. Are you up against anyone or taking a seat of someone who decided not to run. I have not seen anything about the town meeting members election anywhere on line or in the paper. When is the actual election date?

How about we abolish this entire system? How can you expect to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time with what seems like 100 people who all can have their 5 minutes to say something about it? Get it so people can not get up on their soap box, have to stay on point, and can be shut down of they ramble, and then we may be able to accomplish something. I hope you being part of the system does not turn you into one of these lunatics. We need new blood at town meeting, reasonable, responsible, informed people, and you meet that criteria, so don’t let them suck you into the system as it exists now where so many seem to forget what the purpose of town meeting is.
