Dumpster diving at the MJ Testing lab

You might think from all the hysteria that the cops found dead bodies or radioactive waste in a dumpster that is used by the marijuana testing lab on Speen Street. Evidently, an officer ( the same officer who has been suing the Town for years over a decision to re-assign the officer to another duty. This same officer used to be the DEA go-between and part of the regional drug task force. He is one of the biggest troublemakers and has cost the Town hundred's of thousands of dollars in legal expenses.) who was driving by the building saw a car in the parking lot near a dumpster and ascertained that the car must be involved with a crime... so the officer checked the car for occupants... and using his superior detective skills decided to search the dumpster for evidence of a crime. The company is supposed to render any tested products useless and it's unclear if there was any real usable marijuana left in those test tubes. It almost sounds like the officer had some info on the dumpster contents and it would not shock me to know, he is using this stunt to make a point to the management at FPD. I also wonder if he needed a search warrant. And to add to all of this hysteria, at last nights council meting, all the reefer madness club member's had their say about how tragic this discovery of useless test tubes in a dumpster was. The very best, nominated for a golden globe award is our favorite prohibitionist Ms. Grove who compared the dumpster find to General Chemical.

FRAMINGHAM — City officials are asking the state Cannabis Control Commission to investigate a local marijuana testing laboratory where local police allegedly found hundreds of vials with marijuana residue discarded in a dumpster outside the business.
Mayor Yvonne Spicer on Monday penned a letter to Commission Chairman Steven J. Hoffman detailing what she described as a violation of the state’s cannabis regulations by MCR Labs, located at 85 Speen St.
According to a police report, Officer Matthew Gutwill saw an unoccupied vehicle parked near dumpsters in the rear of the business on Sunday at around 9:30 p.m. He searched the area, then looked inside the dumpsters and found “hundreds of glass vials containing what appeared to be extracted marijuana or THC,” according to a police report.
Gutwill also opened white and black plastic bags in the dumpster and found they contained hundreds more vials with “similar brown, sticky liquid.” Gutwill removed 10 bags of evidence, and conducted a field test on one of the vials, receiving a positive result for the presence of THC.
The dumpsters are not locked, nor are they stored inside a chained or locked area, leaving them “open to any person going into (them) in search of cans, bottles, metals and marijuana products,” the police report reads.

Something is rotten in Denmark on this. Why was this cop dumpster diving in the first place?

The cop is looking to make his former job as the DEA agent viable. After all, with pot businesses in our town, we are about to become overrun with Mexican drug lords so he has to be ever vigilant to catch them.........in the dumpsters seemed like a logical place to look to him.

I think there is a legitimate concern here, although I agree that that officers conduct is very questionable that does not negate the fact that all this stuff was in the dumpster that should not have been there. You can't really argue that point.

What has the CCC said on this! How many testing facilities are there here in MA?

I think there's only 2 testing labs so far

I'm not arguing the lackadaisical effort on the owners part in making sure the waste is disposed of properly. But we are not talking about medical waste, infectious disease waste or any bio hazard waste... we're talking micro or milligram size waste that is biodegradable. Just exactly how much of "usable product" was left in the test tubes? Was the owner of the car identified as some stranger or an employee of MCR Labs. There are way more toxic materials and bio hazards in dumpsters around Town and in the interest of public safety, should ALL of them be inspected by the cops?
The Mayor, nearly completely silent on the issue from the get go.. strangely appears now in print and in tv screens, sounding some alarm over this, what may turn out to be, just plain propaganda from an unhappy police officer.

Jim sounds like you are making excuses for them. This is one case where it looks like the marijuna business might be at fault. Trying to bring up other toxic things that should be looked for is just an attempt to deflect. Suck it up. It looks like they screwed up.

they followed the State Regs and ignored common sense. Slap them on the wrist. They've been open for months... and now the cops are inspecting dumpsters. Something good will come of this and the Cannabis Commission will tweak the regs.

Have a looksee at the council meting where "marijuana" comes in and the dumpster issue are discussed. Start at 2:11:00 where Mike Rossi starts, at 2:16:00 Giombeti pile on, but the best is yet to come when at 2:17:00 Stoll equates this dumpster issue to General Chemical, at 2:21:00 Richardson wants new laws, at 2:23:00 Grove says that marijuana is a hallucinogenic drug, at 2:31:00 Cannon just wants a face to face with the mayor and neighbors of the shops and at 2:36 Shepard wants fines.

Just watched it Jim. Loved how Grove complains about locations and the Town Manager tells her it was them that voted for the area. If Grove ain't happy about it, then give the earful to the Council not the Town Manager. Cockroach Cannon's only purpose on that council seems to be to do whatever he can do to make the Mayor look bad.

Has this been a problem at other testing facilities or unique to Framingham? They don't seem to be denying they screwed up which means the cop legitimately found that stuff.

there only 2 testing labs as of last week, and we have them both. As they should admit it ... they screwed up the trash SOP, BUT... how much of a sample was found.. how much total weight was in the test tubes of "USABLE marijuana".. that's the point I'm making. Today's Mass Specs need only the smallest of sample to determine it's composition.

This entire event I believe was staged. I drove over there. The dumpsters are behind the building. There are 2 of them... one recycle, one trash. The problem has been solved, there are large locks on the doors and I'm sure, they owners will spend more time throwing bleach on the test tubes before tossing.
