Eastleigh Farm will grow cannabis to stay alive

Last nights meeting at the Quaker house was jammed packed with rich white folks who all seem to support the way the farmer can use his land in agriculture and not growing house lots. I must admit, I've never been to that hall... quite the place. The rich white folks who will set up operations explained the operation. What was stunning to hear was some of the Town's elected and appointed positions come out in favor of this grow operation. For instance, Charlie Sistky who approved the moratorium and restricted zoning for pot shops, spoke in favor. Along with the senior member of the BOH who was quoted as saying last year that "lives were at stake" regarding pot shops in Town. And the hypocritical Adam Steiner who voted for the moratorium and zoning restrictions seemed to be in favor of the grow. And of coarse M. Rossi who still dosn't understand what's going on asked a bunch of ill-informed questions.
All of the above mentioned have denied Framingham of hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue by their actions, but now those same people who have advocated for saving the farm are all in  favor of the grow operation.
Missing from this meeting was the anti-pot people like Ms. Grove. She must have been to the other meeting at the library about another pot shop that wants to open in another bad location on Rte 9.
I'm over joyed with the decision by the farmer to not only save the farm, but to get in on the ground floor of a billion dollar industry that I have advocated for over 30 years. And it appears that the rich white folk agree.

I have to ask why the need to post all that negative info about people? Just be glad that they are in favor of what you are writing about and leave it at that

Their hypocrisy is overwhelming. I am very glad for the farmer and the community. It's a win win for all.

Anyone who thinks building a bunch of houses which will impact budgets for services like police, fire, trash pick-up and schools would be better for Framingham than a farm growing pot needs to have their head examined. One options costs us significantly, and the other will help raise the income for the City. Seems like a ne brainer to me

Any difference on the tax rate for a farm growing corn or raising cows than a farm growing pot?

no tax difference.. agriculture is agriculture, weather you grow cows, corn or anything else. The only difference is when you grow pot.. your forced (in the Host Community Agreement) to pay up to 3% of your sales to the Town for up to 3 years.

Does the city make any money from a grow facility, or do we only get the tax revenue from the retail pot shops?

Anyone going to grow hemp? Less controversial crop and probably almost as good financially for the farmer, plus I suspect it requires a lot less perimeter controls and no host agreement with the city

Not surprised at who was there to support this from the city government. Doug Stefans has always had his hand on the puppet strings of the elected here in Framingham.

I thought you could only grow indoors? Are they building some big greenhouse to do this in?

all inside growing

we get a money from the host agreement only from the farm
the front end pays both 3% to get in and 3% tax to the Town.

No one I've heard of is planning any hemp around here. Doug has the last large piece of agriculture land in Town. And you don't want to grow cannabis (pot) any where near where hemp is growing.. hemp can completely ruin a pot crop with pollination if it's to close. I read the other day, hemp can fetch between 35k to 70k an acre and they also say, hemp will be worth more in the long run, than pot. Since the amount of people who consume pot will be limited, the use of CBD and other plant components will continue to rise. I wish I could grow a few acres of hemp myself.

What happens now? Is this a done deal?

so looks like Framingham is becoming more business friendly after all. Guess the secret was to get businesses to pay the city to allow them to be here. Once the business dies that, the city places nice. Anyone else see this as an issue?

Hooray for Eastleigh for seeing the light and doing this

they go to the planning board for minor site review... shouldn't be an issue

I'm sure they will be subjected to the Mayor's marijuana SWAT Team and maybe the BOH will try to extort more money in fees, then to the council.
That'll be something to see all the prohibitionists on the council fall deeply in love including Grove and Rossi, with the idea and will pat themselves on the back when they approve it, announcing they have saved the family farm and the last large piece of land in Town. Might even make some political flyers in October when they all run again.

I say Hooray as well. I told that to Stephen last night.

It's looking more and more about pay to play here your right. A story about a big development in Town is breaking.. more at 11.

that's an option to consider but in the meantime, hunger and recycling are two areas I'd like to focus on.

All the illustrations you've made, the easy website navigation, the friendships you help to create - it is mostly superb, and it's really assisting our son and our family believe that the subject matter is awesome, and that is pretty mandatory. Many thanks for everything! marijuana grow lights
