First day fun for Maria Robinson
How glad I was to see and somewhat shocked, to read about State rep Robinson's effort to have a way for the other House reps to vote in secret when electing a House leader. Not that it matters, but if were elected back in 2008 I would have done the same. DeLeo has and will always represent nepotism, cronyism, tunnel vision while keeping a firm grip on operating the House in secret. He represents what most normal people hate about government and he could care less.
Perhaps we may see DeLeo retire before his term ends and a new more open leader would be elected.
Until then, Ms. Robinson may find her desk in the basement and be retaliated against this year, but I give her much credit for taking a stand against the Speaker.

I agree with Jim on this. Good for Robinson
Isn't this sort of in direct opposition for her statement while running about roll call votes being recorded?
Technically it does... a big BUT.. the only cover any of the State reps have to voice their opinion on the Speaker is to have a secret vote. There may well be many many more reps who would love to vote for someone else to run the circus. A secret vote would provide cover for them. Ms Robinson's idea of opening up the roll call votes is still a good thing. But the real prize that should be sought is lifting the exemption Beacon Hill has to operate in secret and avoiding our public records laws. That's the big one.
I'll hope DeLeo dosen't punish Ms. Robinson to badly when it comes to committee appointments as it would be a shame if she (Robinson) were to be left off any renewable energy type committees.
I still think it took real guts to do this on your first day at work... like asking for a raise on the first day of employment..
