The Schools step up, the Finance Sub Committee tries

I am impressed with the Superintendents bold actions in cutting the school budget without hurting the students. Not renewing the Perini lease and having the staff work from home for 2020 and 2021 is a great idea. Not hiring the other two assistants made a serious reduction in the school budget.

The FSC did make cuts that made sense to me like the senior advisor to the Mayor, the accountant, membership in the MMA ( Mass Municipal Association) travel for meetings and stipends for the City Council.
What the left alone was the one sacred cow... the Police Department. None of them have the courage to ask the Chief to justify anything.

They also left alone the salaries for the Mayor, COO, CFO and many other department heads. Even a 1% cut in the salaries of all of those people across the board would make a difference in the budget, but I think they should all volunteer to take a 20% cut. That would be serious money. A 20% cut in just the Mayor's salary amount to almost $40,000. That is full salary for another city employee. Did they cut the stipend for the city councilors?

I agree.. 20% would show they are serious about the fiscal realities that are here.
I didn't see any cut in the Councilor pay.
I still contend that laying off the one employee who is ready to jump ship would not be
out of order. The division heads don't need to be daily managed imo.
And why does the Chief of Police need, one assistant and three assistant Chief's of Police. FPD is top heavy for sure.

Sounds like we need to do a staff audit in all city departments. And I agree, get rid of the COO, we know he is looking to leave anyway

hey Jim 100% agreement that Keezer needs to go, but who would ever apply to take his spot? Any smart prospective COO would check out council meetings first, see how the council treats the administration, and say forget it or only if you give me a shit ton of money to put up with that bullshit.

your probably right... the way he is treated would turn off anyone good. I wonder how much of his contract we would have to pay if he left before the contract expired. Remember that moron school superintendent Stacy Scot I think his name was. We paid him a bundle when he left.
