City to fine property owners for violating covid restrictions. CC overrides Mayor's veto on apartment moratorium

Clarification: City issuing $500 fines to Framingham property owners violating the Governor’s Order on gatherings: The Framingham Public Health Department, with support from the City’s Police Department, has begun to levy fines for those violating the Governor’s Order on gatherings to help curb the spread of COVID-19. Framingham’s current spike in COVID-19 cases can be attributed to gatherings across the City. Under the Governor’s Order, those who violate the restrictions on gatherings can be fined $500 per incident. For single-family homes, it is the property owner or the renters of the homes who could be fined. For multi-family dwellings, such as apartment and condominium complexes, the City will work to identify the one hosting the gathering to determine who should be fined. If the event is held in a common area of an apartment or condominium complex, the property owner could be liable.

No big surprise on the Council's unanimous decision to override her veto. Now lets see how fast they can get the studies done.

Fines are a great idea but more important is getting the name of everyone there and making them get tested so we can avoid spread. Are they doing that? Fine does NOT stop spread!

from what I've heard, the authorities are not taking names unless they are the property/condo owners.
I agree.. but we have to do something other than just posting the videos on FB. While you can't fix stupidity, the only way we will ALL get to live a semi-normal life is to comply with the BOH and State regs. Just like giving tickets to drivers who are driving with their phone in their ear.

Lets focus on the goal, which as Jim says is to keep us all safe. Explain to me how a fine does that? Who gets the money from the fine? If it is the BOH ok but if not how does this help

my guess is that the fines will end up in the general fund..since the tickets will be handed out by the cops I presume.

If my tenants threw a large party and I got a 500.00 ticket... I assure you...that would never happen again. Just like a parking ticket when you know you didn't feed the meter, once you pay the 50 dollars, you are way more diligent feeding the meter.

I agree with the post above saying how does a fine stop the spread. it doesen't. But if the fine money at least went to the BOH then that would be something. Can we make that happen or do we have no say in where that money goes?

we have no say.
keep in mind, the BOH Covid expenses are being reimbursed from the State and Feds.

Good point to make Jim about the expenses being paid by the state. I forgot about that.
