Vigil for Eurie Stamps, Memorial Building 8.15.20, 2PM

I hope I can see some of my fellow justice minded neighbors there on Saturday.

Ever since Eurie Stamps Sr. died at the hands of Framingham police in 2011, I’ve been complaining that his story hasn’t been told. While the MetroWest Daily News reported the story at every step, and I made a point of editorializing on the topic whenever I could, the death of Eurie Stamps made barely a ripple in the Boston or national media.

But that’s about to change. Friends of the Stamps family and supporters of racial justice are calling for the name of Eurie Stamps Sr. to be added to the roll of the victims of police violence.

Eurie Stamps was killed during a SWAT raid on his Framingham home in January 2011. He was not a suspect in any crime, and was following officers’ instructions, laying on his stomach on the floor, when he was fatally shot. The case never went before a grand jury and the officer responsible, Paul Duncan, remains on the Framingham police force.

Eurie Stamps Sr., 68, was part of a large family in Cambridge, where he grew up, and in Framingham, where he moved after his retirement from the MBTA. “Big Eur” was known for his big heart and his support for youth sports.

#JusticeForEurie plans two events to bring overdue attention to Eurie’s cause:

Saturday, Aug. 15, 2 p.m.: A vigil will be held in front of the Memorial Building in Framingham, 150 Concord Street.

Great to see you are still on this story Jim. This showed Framingham at its worse and continues to be a bad story for us as we even now have not addressed this. Fire Paul Duncan and reopen the case

The mayor skirted the issue completely and thinks a scholarship in Mr. Stamps name solves the problem. NO. We want justice

What do we do now? How do we get Duncan fired and the case reopened?

Great question.. what next.
Here's the predicament. The Mayor seems to want to have nothing to do with any of this matter. She lived here when it all went down and you never ever heard a word fom her. But now wants a scholarship in Eurie's name. PLUS.. she's running to be re-elected and won't want to pick a fight with FPD, since she just signed a fantastic (for FPD) contract with all three bargaining units... PLUS.. she and the Council just approved 150k for space in Natick for the Drug Task Force.

King and the Counsel.. are terrified of pissing the cops off since King will run for Mayor next year.... the others are either related to the cops or afraid or member's of the Democratic Town wide Committee.

DA Ryan has been quoted as saying, she will release more information about the case, but she could care less about a black man murdered by a white cop in her district, IMO.

Maura Healey could do something, but she won't even prosecute the State Cops who are guilty of OT fraud.

I think the only ones who could do anything would be the feds and Andrew Lelling, but it doesn't appear our congresswomen Clark or Senator Markey would dare delve into this in an election year.

So I don't know. i do know an editorial write from Vermont while meaning well, doesn't have the clout he once wheeled with his pen. And the Black and Brown member's of Framingham seem little interested in justice as show by the lack of them at Saturday's vigil for Eurie.

I wish I had better news.

I thought the turnout for Saturday's event was shameful. 100 people for an innocent man murdered here in Framingham by a cop still on the force? Why aren't more people outraged. I agree with everything Jim says in his post above, but I do think the real failure here in the Mayor. She could take action on this without looking bad as she was not in power when this all went down, and she should. In addition, Mike Hugo painted a horrific picture of the chair of the Selectmen at the time, who I believe was Cheryl Tully Stolls, and her response to his questions. Every single one of those where were selectment when this happened should have been at this event to offer an apology to the family, and to the residents of Framingham. I think you would be hard pressed to find a resident of any color here who knows that whole story who is not ashamed of how Framigham handled it
