Framingham lost a fighter for the disabled

A Founding member of the Disability Commission, Town Meeting member and school committee member Karen Foran Dempsey died on Christmas Eve at 54. She was an advocate for the disabled and fought hard to get the Town to become ADA complaint.

She didn't seem to let her disability get in the way and was highly regarded by her Town Meeting member's. The work she started and completed will be forever remembered by all who knew her, not just the disabled.

Framingham may never have such a strong advocate for the disabled willing to fight for what is right.

The Town mourns with her family.

Some people can not be replaced and Karen is one of those. My deepest sympathies to her family. I wonder how the mayor is feeling about denying Karen the right to continue on the disability commission. I hope the mayor learns something from this tragedy

Had trouble accessing this blog over the last few days. It kept saying the site was under construction but I am in now. Karen Dempsey was one of a kind and her loss is a huge one for the disabled not just here in Framingham but across the state. My condolences to her family, especially to Janet who also serves our city. You may not agree with their politics but they are a family who don't jut talk the talk, they walk the walk. Reminds ne of you and Steph and all both of you do for our community.

Tonight at the council meeting a resolution will be presented about Karen's work and her legacy. That's the least Framingham can do for her and her family.
