From the Rules Committee.. how to get even with the Mayor
Have a look at the unconstitutional ordinance John boy has put forward. The Rules Committee members are John Stefanini, Tracey Bryant, Philip Ottaviani
Petition to prohibit the use of public resources or property for political activity
https://webapps.framinghamma.gov/WebLink/ElectronicFile.aspx?docid=1610884&dbid=0&repo=Framingham
1) Public forums or debates sponsored by a non-partisan group and duly permitted;
2) The personal campaign gear held or worn by an individual;
3) Collection of signatures for a petition by an individual; and,
4) Political rallies duly permitted
I can't wait to challenge this crazy ordinance in court. No one can peacefuly protest at the Town Hall? are you kidding John? Hold a rally on the common as long as it's permitted by the government. Since your favorite coarse in law school was constitutional law, I wonder what your professors would think you had missed a few classes. I myself have been on the steps of the Memorial Building a few times over the years without a permit to do so. I believe I'm excising my right to assemble. I hope when Petrini sees this hog wash much of this will just go away.

Is this a even legal Jim?
Not sure it is, but I'm no constitutional expert by any means. But on the surface, it looks wrong.
To be fair, there is no reason to display political paraphernalia on public property. Seems reasonable. It doesn't seem like this ordinance is much stricter than what is already in state ethics and conflict of interest law. Doesn't the LWV have its own set of conflict of interest rules? I don't see where peaceable assembly or protest is expressly verboten. In the language of the ordinance, it even says, "except where allowed by law", which I would read as including Constitutional law.
Why not on public property? Are you suggesting I can't carry a yard sign on the Common without permission from the government? There are already rules in place to use the Towns facilities for political purposes. The League has had a table on the Common with permit from Parks, Cushing park without permit, High School, invited and the libraries that require permission already.
I don't believe the BLM protests asked permission to assemble on the steps of the Memorial building or on the Common.
I see it as restricting the rights of people who are running for elected office or seeking relief from the government hampering free speech.
Lets see what the lawyers say.
I see it as an obvious attempt to restrict the Mayor
Let's just cut thru the bullshit, John S. wants this so that later he can try and trick Framingham into thinking that he was right in the library scandal.
you have to be blind to not see Stefinini is doing this for himself. is there anything he does that doesnt have a selfserving prupose?
