How terribly sad... another school shooting, 30 so far this year

I had to watch the press conference by the Texas governor and all his law enforcement buddies. I may be dreaming but I could swear their stories don’t match up from earlier reporting. Evidence of this is clearly seen when some Texas Ranger explains what happened, which conflicts with what the Governor stated. There must have been a dozen law enforcement agencies that the Governor thanked for showing up.

What indisputable facts come out on what the school officers did or didn’t do will come out soon. And who exactly shot the perpetrator.

And what I know now is that the terrorist just turned 18 and then bought 2 AR 15 assault rifles.

And the R’s claim they can’t stop someone that age their 2nd Amendments Rights.

And in some way, we might have learned something if he was captured alive but I understand they may have had any choice.

What kind of a world am I leaving my grandchildren?

That last statement says it all Jim. Problem is will our grandchildren survive until they are old enough to inherit this mess of a world we are leaving them or will they suffer the same fate as those innocent little angels in Texas

The second amendment is short and clear stating: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Clearly this is speaking about military needs. We now have a formal militia by way of the army, navy, air force and marines. Since the regulated militia is now run by our government, what is the justification for the right of the people who are not in official service to our country, to bear arms? My reading of the 2nd amendment does not even allow arms for hunting animals.

What are the protections in place here in Framingham at our schools to prevent this from happening? Shouldn’t we be having a public discussion about that?

This does not happen in other countries. This is bullshit to say this is not a gun control issue but a mental health issue. Are those idiots spouting this crap, like Cruz, really implying that US residents are far more likely to be mentally ill than residents of other countries? The one difference between here and countries like the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, etc. is that we allow just about anybody over 18 to buy any type of gun they want, That is the issue, and 90% of US residents agree with that. Unfortunately, at least 50 of our elected senators are too dumb to get that fact.

I agree with the previous poster. I have young kids in Framingham schools. We have a need, and a right, to know what protections are in place to make sure I never have to stand for hours outside a scene of a school massacre waiting to hear if my child is dead

Every single legislator who defends the right of citizens to bear arms should be required to meet one on one with the parent of every single child killed in a school shooting and give each of these families 1 hour of their time to hear what they have to say. I suspect that is the only way these morons will ever start to get this. And those of you voting for these people and supporting them are just as guilty of allowing this to happen as they are.

There is something fishy about the story we are being fed about what happened in Texas. The assailant was in the school for an hour before police even entered? And the police were engaged with him before he entered the schools. Sounds like they are trying to cover up all the mistakes and the cowardice of the officers involved.

These people, specifically those preaching about religious values they promote, seem to have forgotten their 10 Commandments, specifically #6 which says Thou shalt not kill. It does not say thou shalt not kill certain people, or certain things, it simply says thou shalt not kill. Since the sole purpose of a gun is to kill, perhaps those touting their religious beliefs should revisit their religious beliefs.

Anyone else watching the press conference on this? Was there a school resource officer in the school or not? If there was, why did they NOT engage? And did I hear right that the cops waited around for an hour before they went back in to save the lives of innocent young children?

After that press conference it seems for sure that we are not being told the truth. How many of those dead kids would be here with their parents today if cops had not waited so long to go in. This is a failure of epic proportions. Just like at Marjorie Taylor school in Florida. That chief got fired. I hope even more heads roll over this fiasco.

Far fetched I know but why can’t these families sue the legislators who will not allow gun control to happen for their part in the murder of their babies? Just like the parents of that kid who are currently in custody for not stopping their son from bringing a gun to school why can’t we hold these legislators accountable?

Anyone with kids or grandkids or neices or nephews or brothers or sisters should be outraged and demanding accountability. We should all be speaking for those who are grieving. We should all be voting for those little kids who won't ever get to vote. We should all be demanding the truth from the spokespeople who are just spinning more and more lies every time they speak, Most importantly, we should all be working to make sure we never have to face this again. Pray for those grieving, but fight with your voice and your vote for those who are dead,

As I heard your wife say many times one TV, it is not sympathy these families need. It is anger. Anger will drive us to make changes much faster than sympathy and prayers will. We all should be angry and demanding changes. It could be us grieving the next time.

I wrote to Adam about the Oxford High School shooting and the reports of shell casings at two schools in January. My concern is that we never hear what the outcome was from the FPS or FPD after finding the casings. Grade school age children are not likely to be gathering shell casings at the gun range and are more likely to have access to them at home. Just my guess.
So I wrote to Adam, my rep on the SC and SC Chair asked this: And the replies are below.
Are there any lessons to be learned from the Oxford High shooting? Will there be any discussion at the SC level? I've read about shell casings found in two schools here.

Hi Jim,

I’ve added the Superintendent and Safety & Security Director to help outline what the district does in response to these situations, both local and nationally. Due to school vacation week they may not be able to reply this week.

One of my hopes is that next term the new Mayor and School Committee can revisit the recent $302K cut made by the current Mayor to the request for school security related infrastructure and communications upgrades. I expect this to be added to an agenda in the near future. We requested:
“Security Enhancements at multiple schools including security cameras and electronic door access systems - $302,000
This request will further support and enhance the already robust security systems and measures at all schools. This includes installation of additional security devices, cameras, and gates; installation of access and alarm systems at the Farley Building; and District-wide communication upgrades.”

Thank you,

Adam

Adam

Thanks for your reply, but rehashing a budget cut has nothing to do with the school shooting at Oxford High School, the reasons it happened and what red flags went unnoticed.
My question was, given what we know about the teenage shooter, his parents and what the school officials knew when they met with the parents, is FPS prepared to deal with a pair of irresponsible parents who allow their child to bring a gun to school in a backpack hell bent on killing students.?
Perhaps it's not a subject you wish the SC to even bring up for discussion, but it should be in my opinion in light of the shell casings found on school property and the increase in gun permits in the Ham.

Thanks again

Hello,

The School Committee's top roles are the budget and to set long term policy. We are limited in purview on the items you emailed about, so the security budget is one area where we can attempt to make an impact. Beyond funding, if there are any edits to existing policies, or gaps to identify the critical issues you just outlined, then I'm all for reviewing those through the committee's policy review process.

There are also cases which may apply in the situation you outlined where the committee delegates this responsibility to the district and FPD. Here is an existing policy example: EB: Safety Program

I look forward to reading the FPS reply after the holiday.

Thank you.

Another example of our councilors and school committee members skirting the issue they are questioned about. I am hoping the school committee members read this blog and see that some parents want a public meeting about what security is in place at our schools. I doubt that will happen

This is a problem far bigger than just gun control laws. This is about a group of 50 people who are more interested in the financial benefits they gain from the gun lobby then they are in saving the lives of our young kids. Think about that, and if you are not angry when you do, then ask yourself why you aren’t.

Lets focus on what we can do. We can demand honest answers and we can demand better gun control laws. These politicians only get elected if we vote for them. We need to vote for candidates that represent the voters will and the large majority of us things guns laws have to change and assault rifles should not be available for purchase by anyone. It is a military grade gun people. Lets make sure it is used for the purpose and that purpose only. November elections are not that far away. lets all mount a campaign to support those running for office who stand for what those they represent believe. Jim is the LWV in Framingham planning to do anything on this issue?

How can anyone miss that this is all because of lack of action by our elected officials in Washington. When an angry crowd stalked them they hid in fear, and they think it is ok for young children to have that experience? Shame on all of them

Steph and I have stepped away from the League. A new slate of directors has been elected and they elected Suze Craighead as the president. What they do and when ... and if they do anything I couldn't tell you. They don't seem very energetic.

I think the SC, Super, Mayor the Chief, the HS security chief, and parents have a sit down in the auditorium at Fuller to explain what the plans are to help protect

While I agree we need to vote out those who support the manufactures who make these guns of war that kids are buying, our state has the strongest gun regulations in the country I believe. We're a blue state and a blue Town, assault rifles will not be sold here, unless perhaps to the military and police.

Is it foolish to ask them to autopsy his brain and see if it shows some abnormality like CT and football players? All this over a phone bill? Is that mental illness?

Will the school somehow monitor kids who drop out of school or can they legally provide the kids name to the cops?

We can't sit around and wait for it to happen here.

Are all the guns in Town safely locked away from kids in the home?... including law enforcement?

How do we know that all the doors to the school buildings are locked all the time?

Anyone know if the school committee here has made any public statement on this issue, or the mayor's office? I would think they know how concerned parents are every time we hear about a new school shooting which happens far too often

I've seen nothing from the administration or the SC.

And it's only getting worse for the Police Chief:
From the NY Times
Border Patrol agents arrived far earlier than disclosed, but the Uvalde police initially kept them from entering the school, two officials said.

Friday, May 27, 2022 12:13 PM ET
Agents from Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrived at some point between 12 p.m. and 12:10 p.m., according to the officials — far earlier than previously known. But they did not breach the adjoining classrooms of the school where the gunman had locked himself in until a little before 1 p.m.

I am not surprised to hear this new news given that the story they were giving us made no sense. I hope those cops, all with guns, who stayed outside with their guns instead of going in to protect those innocent children all get prosecuted.
