10 years ago Mr Stamps was killed by FPD SWAT Team

Middelsex County Marion Ryan has announced that the FBI has been asked to review the entire case. I think that's great just 9 years to late. Unless the the feds interview the payers under oath, I'll bet nothing will come of this. The FBI can take all the measurements it wants to but it changes nothing. Paul Duncan stood over Eurie Stamps, who was laying down on the floor in his home, being compliant and no threat at all and aimed his assault rifle at Eurie's head, with the safety off , and fired while stumbling.

It was already confirmed in the civil case that Duncan was standing over Eurie pointing his loaded machine gun at his head. No amount of measurements will change those facts.

Over this past year there have been 7, I believe demonstrations calling for justice for Eurie.  With a few organized and attended by young people of color. One had the former police chief attended, one or two had the Mayor attend, one had the new Chief of Police attend and most of them had very few if any elected officials. Sometime over the summer, Rick Holmes, former opinion editor for the MWDN reminded the readers of what happened that night with a lengthy editorial in the paper and on social media.

It was at the last demonstration that the Democratic Town Committee somehow took over the calls for justice with a half-assed resolution submitted to the Council. It was poorly written and missed the point on several levels.

So tonight at the DC meeting, the mostly white democrats who you never heard from for the past 10 years are now asking the City Counsel to pass a resolution declaring March 2, 2021, Eurie Stamps Day in Framingham. While #JFE originally had planned to hold a vigil on January 5th to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Mr. Stamps' death, his family has asked that we commemorate his life (birthday - 3/2/21), rather than his death. We will be working towards establishing a scholarship in Eurie's name, and plan on kicking off our fundraising for this effort on his birthday.Of course, the Mayor promised the attendees of the vigil held at City Hall in August, that she would start a scholarship for Eurie's memory, and we are still planning to hold her to her word and seek her fundraising assistance as we initiate our efforts. We look forward to working with the Council and Mayor and all of Framingham's businesses to endow this.

While there is some hope that the new police reform bill signed by Gov Baker may help stem the tide of no-knock warrants and demand more training and police accountability, it won't hold Paul Duncan accountable for Mr Stamps death and neither will the toothless, feel good, non-binding resolution put forth tonight by mostly older white guys in the democratic town committee.

I am surprised there is not some sort of protest arranged for today. Why not?

In agree here with everything Jim is saying but I have to say better to have the useless DTWC doing something than having no one do something. I will be interested to see what the response is from the DCs. But then again, being they are all more concerned with their image than they are with accomplishing anything, they will probably just pass this with no changes. I have not seen this resolution but hoping it actually has some teeth in it.

Will be interesting to see what the FBI has to say but I suspect DA Ryan knows what that will be or she would not have asked them to take a look as that could make her office look bad. Just saying

This is at least a move in the right directions so before we pass judgement on this lets see how it plays out with the FBI. In these times of police reform maybe we can actually see Duncan fired if not prosecuted and jailed as he deserves to be

Last nights meeting. The Stamps resolution is at 1:20 to 1:37.

Quite disappointing on all sides. The Mayor side-stepped the entire resolution,
DA Ryan was there to aid Hugo and the DTWC and one ill-informed councilor wants to review the resolution a year from now.

The whole thing is just disturbing after all these years. Nothing will be done, the officer will not be held accountable, the new Chief who (happens to be black) was on the force when Eurie was killed had and has nothing to say,our Mayor who happens to be black will sweep this under the rug, our black church leaders have just let it slide and the mostly white DTWC wants the Mayor to help fundraising for a scholarship in Eurie's name. I ask, is this what justice for Eurie looks like? Should be be setting up a fund for when this happens again?

All valid points Jim. And it will happen again if we don't hold city employees accountable for their actions, which we have not done in this case.

Don't know if you say this Jim but an interesting column written by a Framingham woman on the issue of city employees accountability. Worth the time to read and consider.

I did not know you and Ms. Deeley were a couple Jim. Good choice on your part from what I have seen about her, and congrats on the outcome with her sister's ashes.
