Will we be paying extra to recycle?

I'm getting the impression that we may end up paying extra for recycling our recyclables. In a Source editorial, Stephen Sarnosky asks:

"are you willing to pay up front for sustainable goods or pay on the back end for increased disposal fees and decreasing landscapes? Is this a damned if you do or damn if you don’t proposition? I think sustainability is the path to the future.

Notice that no one from the City pushed out a reminder to residents about what can and cannot be recycled in your recycle carts. While doing errands last week, the amount of trash that ended up in the recycle bins was overflowing. I stopped at a few bins and could see with my own eyes, why, in part, why recycle companies are demanding higher tipping fees.  People just don't get it, and our city is falling farther behind in educating the residents.

I recognize with all that's happening in our City State and Country, recycling is not top priority, but in a few months, we will be asked to pay more for everything we use, water and sewer, waste water, Fuller, the CPA tax, a small increase in our property taxes and perhaps a new recycling fee. Not much we can do to change most of the increases, but recycling costs.

Just another way our fine City has found to steal more money out of our wallets

I am not understanding this. Can someone explalin? Why would we need to pay more than we already do for recycing? Isn't that part of our tax bill?

for the last few years, DPW, Sanitation has asked for more money in their budget to get rid of our recycled materials and our regular trash. One major reason a few years back was the contamination issue and the countries who take our recycled materials are charging more and taking less materials. This all ads up to US paying more one way or the other. Many years ago, the third world countries took everything we shipped them, but now, those same countries are more demanding than ever that the materials are clean.

How about not paying anymore than we already do? Why isn’t that an option?

Just like climate change recycling will impact our kids more than us. Bee need to stop least try to help them inherit a world that is safe for them. I am willing to pay a few extra dollars to do that bare you?

How about fining people who put contaminated things in their recylce bin? Paying one person $65000 a year to check recycle bins is a lot less than it will cost the city to cover the cost increases if we don't clean up our act

I agree... the City needs to be more proactive with not only fines, but more education about recycling
