Baker administraion gives out 4 million in grants for police body cams
But Framingham was not on the list. A great missed opportunity imo. Many months ago I asked Mayor Spicer's office if we had applied for the grant funding. To no avail. Charlie has indicated in our candidate forum for Mayor that he is in favor of body cameras. Lets hope he stands by that and applies for the funding. After all, FPD needs to be more transparent in dealing with the public. And now with the formation of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, cops who kill innocent people will be held accountable.
More than $4 million in state grants have been awarded to 64 municipalities across Massachusetts to help local police departments start or expand the use of body cameras.
These grants are the first in a five-year, $20 million capital grant program which is expected to deploy about 9,000 body-worn cameras across the state's cities and towns.

How do we insure that FP officers are required to wear body cams? How many innocent black men need to be murdered by a cop for us to recognize the problem?
Jim what’s up with Noval being outside the Memorial Building?
Whose failure is it that Framingham was not a recepient of this body cam funding?
I asked Ricky why Novall was outside. Ricky said in an email that Noval had covid. I feel bad for him and hope he was vaxed and boosted.
I wrote the Mayor on 7.14.21 and asked if we (Framingham) applied for the funding. I never heard back.
Many Mayor's asked for the funding and a few Police Chiefs as I understand.
Plenty of blame to go around.
My impression was the Mayor didn't want to ruffle the feathers of FPD with mandating body cameras. I believe the Chief said at a council meeting that outfitting cops with cameras had to be negotiated. But the council already approved the cop contract I believe.
Charlie has indicated in the Mayor's LWV forum in October, he's in favor of body cameras. Lets see how long it takes him to get that done and if any councilor will bring it up.
